Yeah, this game will be discussed at length by pundits throughout the world, back pages will be filled with in-depth analysis of Wenger's tactics . . . . or nobody cares. One of the two.

I was explaining that to some friends over the weekend. Got to give you credit there - that is funny as hell!

Oh, hey. Only took a week to realize I had PMs in my rcmb inbox. No wonder I'm the only one bumping the soccer thread lately.
A belated happy St. Totteringham's Day to you all.

I'm joining in the fun also. Really looking forward to the game today. Bale and Ronaldo both get the start for Real. Lahm shifts to RB putting Rafinha on the bench for Bayern. Should see a few goals and be a fun game. Winner has to be the favorite to win it all.

I was hoping to head down to the Three Lions in Denver because the Sirius FC channel is broadcasting from there, but alas I'll be watching online at my desk. Anyone else listen to that station? Other than Men in Blazers it has to be among the biggest train wrecks in sports broadcasting.

That's why I volunteered at work to work from 12-9am. I got a crazy look from my boss when I suggested it but I get to enjoy the sun during the day and also get to enjoy soccer games.
Huge deficit now with the away goal for Real.

Aaaand it's pretty much over in Munich. Madrid up 2-0 (both by Ramos), 3-0 aggregate. Bayern Munich would need 4 to advance.

So...anyone know if FS1 is blocked on campus? I can't get in on the live video at all.
Probably too late anyway, 4-0 aggregate as I'm typing this.

Good to see svenski, PSU, Gob and arfabe making the journey over here the last few days. For a while this thread was looking like it would be primarily me and Jim While that can be fun in it's own right, it's good to have other perspectives.
This is unacceptable from Bayern. They need to fire Pep immediately after this match.

I thought Robben was one of the worst players on the pitch today. Held the ball way too long, especially when Bayern got down 2-0 and needed to play quickly. Of course, a big part of that is on Pep for not adjusting his tactics and bringing on somebody who could actually do something with the fucking ball rather than just blast shots directly into a Madrid player's leg.

We fucking got relegated! Thank God we gutted the youth program management this year. I have a feeling this Dutch guy they appointed will take over for Wenger.

My boy is doing some training and camps with the West Ham youth setup in the states - it's bloody impressive. We spent the weekend with West Ham legend Ian Bishop on training that was leagues about anything we've had before, and we've done a lot of stuff.

So you'd rather have two Spanish teams? Even though Barcelona isn't in it, all their insufferable "fans" are going to be annoying as hell because there's two La Liga sides in the finals.

Yes - totally fine with it. Sure - I wish there was less flippy floppy bullshit in La Liga, but that doesn't cancel out my disdain for Chelski and Mourinho.

Much better than having Jim crowing about an English club in the finals.

I also read somewhere that Atletico and Dortmund pay less in wages than QPR. #Redknapp'd. Apparently I am not cool enough to link anything yet, but I think it was in The Guardian.

Re: tOfficial General Soccer Thread 2013-2014 Season
So Copa America will officially be played in the US in 2016. But not the real Copa America, because they're still playing that in 2015 and 2019. This is a centennial celebration Copa America.....i.e., a money grab.
I can't help but wonder if this will be taken seriously or just be a glorified friendly tournament. Either this or the 2015 Copa America will have to take a back seat, or players on the top South American teams will be facing 3 straight summers without a break.

Haha, wow. Did not know that. Also, will MLS be played during the tournament? I can't imagine clubs wanting to release their US and Mexican players for this thing...

Re: tOfficial General Soccer Thread 2013-2014 Season
I can't imagine the MLS angle will be a big deal, since they deal with the US and Mexico in international tournaments 3 out of every 4 summers anyway with the World Cup and the Gold Cup every two years (plus when either get invited to Copa America). With this being in the US, they should really take the month off (it will run June 3-26), as it's bound to kill MLS attendance for any games played in MLS cities.svenski84 wrote:

This ESPNFC article touches on some of the issues with players being released. It says that technically CONCACAF players wouldn't have to be released since they're still just invitees to the CONMEBOL tournament regardless of where it is held, but it sounds like they're trying to make it a requirement in this case

Even if it's just a bunch of glorified friendlies, it'll still be fun to watch. If the games are anywhere near the Midwest, I'm going.

Sounds like a friendly tournament that the US could shine in, erasing all memories of another miserable World Cup showing.

No doubt. Biggest soccer event in this country since the 94 World Cup. I'm hoping Miami gets several games , hopefully a semi or the final, though I'd expect Dallas or LA to get the final. They should be evening/night games, so that helps with the heatGob Bluth wrote:
