Impressive job by Poyet to save Sunderland from relegation - assuming they are now safe since Norwich have to claim 4 pts from Chelsea and Arsenal.

Bye bye - Cardiff and Fulham

Jim must be really conflicted. His least favorite player had a decent showing against his least favorite team.

Way to go, Lee Probert. Let Dzeko lie on the ground like a little bitch for two minutes before doing anything about it.

I can't root for United to lose, but there was a bright side to losing in this case.

It also hopefully tempers any swell for support for Giggs as manager full time. I am enjoying every second of his time as interim manager (even yesterday), but it would be a huge risk to give it to him full time right now.

You know Sunderland has beaten Chelsea and drew (should have beaten) City in recent weeks, right? No, you probably don't, but they have.

And yet they've been incredibly poor against the bottom part of the league. Baffling.

The context being that you managed two shots on target against against one of the most embarrassingly shite teams the Premier League has ever seen? Hernandez really stepped up when given the start huh?

It's going to be hilarious watching you guys try to buy your way out of this dumpster fire.

The context is that Sunderland have beaten top teams, so by itself losing to them is not such an embarrassment. And the context is that out of the 16 (?) games United have lost in all competitions this year, I wouldn't even call it in the top 75% in terms of embarrassing or disgraceful. And there's the context that one team was playing for their lives while the other team would effectively get a punishment if they won (and I'm not saying they threw the game, or using that as an excuse, just talking about the respective motivation of each team).

I don't look forward to a spending spree this summer, even if it happens. You know I don't like that, but it's a losing battle. Having said that, I do hope that the Cavani rumors are true, because that likely means that Rooney will be for sale.  tOfficial General Soccer Thread 2013-2014 Season - Page 3 1837840279  I'd take in a group of mercenaries to get him the **** out of Old Trafford. Love the stories about Rooney being worried about Van Gaal coming in and being close to RVP. If there's even a smidgen of truth to that, Rooney's an even bigger pussy than I thought.

So Jim, today can we say that Liverpool choked? Up 3-0, then giving up 3 goals in 11 minutes.

Or am I still not allowed to talk to trash after United's poor season, even though it has never stopped you or any other fanbase anywhere in any sport when their rivals blew an important game? Just curious, as I'm not entirely sure how to follow your double standard.

Really, man? That's the best you have, some random writer on a random website that picked United to win?

That is less relevant than if I were to post your prediction for the 2012-2013 season:

JFC, DancingBear was frighteningly psychic with that post. Highlights how assinine that Fellaini purchase was when over the top sarcasm a year beforehand almost nailed it exactly.

Punishments for Man City for violating FFP being bandied about.  If this were to go through (50 million pounds and CL squad restriction to 21 players), is it really nothing more than a slap on the wrist?  I'm thinking yes.

City to be fined £50m and have CL squad limited

I'll be cheering your boys on in the FA Cup Final too - go Hull Tigers A.F.C. City Tigers!

Wanted to go with an underdog, it'd be too easy to support liverpool or man u or chelsea. Mainly just wanted a team none of my friends already supported. A buzzfeed survey may or may not have had an influence on my decision...

All the bite of an NCAA punishment on one of the power programs. Some mid-table team in Cyprus are really going to feel the hammer, though.

Another situation to light up our friend Jim.  Young Gedion Zalalem is a youth midfielder for Arsenal and highly regarded.  Born in Germany to Ethiopian immigrants, his mother died in 2005 and he and his father moved to the United States.  He attended high school in Maryland where he was scouted and signed by Arsenal.  He's all of 17 right now.  He had played for German youth teams as his residency status (not citizenship) kept him from playing for the US, but he recently withdrew from a German invite that would've cap-tied him to a degree (he would've had to file the one-time exemption to change national sides).

He is eligible already for Ethiopia and Germany, but is now in the United States to finalize his citizenship, get a US passport and eligibility for the United States as well.  He's not announced any intentions at this point.  We'll need to watch how this develops, but yet again the murky waters of international football eligibility rise to the surface......

Klinsmann doing work. FWIW, he's playing as a deep-lying playmaker for Arsenal's U21s. But I'm guessing he'd be a #10 for the USA since he's probably already more technically skilled than just about every USMNT player.

Ahh.. Thanks for the tip. I'll return the favor.

By the way, what's more likely to happen: USA gets through group play, or Moyes returns to Everton?

Ahh.. Thanks for the tip. I'll return the favor.

By the way, what's more likely to happen: USA gets through group play, or Moyes returns to Everton?

More likely that Moyes returns. Martinez has to jump to a better job soon, although it might not be this summer.

No chance ManCity blows it now - right?

Re the -1 rep - it's weird because there are no downvotes here, only likes.  Might be a glitch as I saw someone else with the same.

I thought I saw it mentioned once that only the mods can downvote or something like that. Some older threads allow it because they were in place before they switched that to a mod-only feature.

Wow, that sounds like something Cym Jim would say, giving the US zero chance to make it through the group stage. Unless you think Moyes might actually return to Everton. I can't see that ever happening after they immediately improved upon him leaving.
