Mr. Crankypants. Did you and Rick just start a high fiber diet together?
Well, maybe, but if earth is 4.5 billion years old as we're lead to believe, then I'm thinking that this series of supernovas is not more recent than that.

The article says these supernovas cleared out this local area of the Milkyway a few million years ago, so had we just been a dinosaur we might have seen it happening.

Turtleneck wrote:The Solar System Exists Inside a Giant, Mysterious Void, And We Finally Know WhyA team of astronomers led by the Harvard & Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA) has now mapped the Local Bubble with the highest precision yet – and found that the Local Bubble was likely carved out of the interstellar medium by a series of supernova explosions millions of years ago.
This is consistent with previous studies, with an additional sting in the tail: the still-expanding Local Bubble is responsible for regions of heightened star formation at its perimeter.
"This is really an origin story; for the first time we can explain how all nearby star formation began," says astronomer Catherine Zucker of the Space Telescope Science Institute, who conducted the research while at the CfA.

The bubble is a region within the milky way which has a lower density of stuff (gases and tiny particles) out in space.
The researchers have a theory about what caused that to happen.

Another one. I guess we've known about it for decades.

Won my fantasy football league, thinking of buying myself a goto equatorial mount to use with my 127mm mak OTA. I have some camera equipment already and was thinking of getting into astrophotography. Anyone have any recommendations for 500-1000$ ?

what's been the bright constellation/star/planet/rock in sort of the southern part of the eastern sky early in the mornings??
I've noticed it low on the horizon the last 4-5 mornings.

Cold air is much clearer, lower humidity, causes stars and plants to be brighter.

Venus is really hot though Trapper and it is still a lot brighter than Uranus.

Not sure how to read this.
Reading it straight, leaving out the pun regarding the Goddess of Love being "hot" and the pronunciation of the God of the Sky which sounds like "your anus" and looking it up on the internets, Venus is global warming gone wild, and yes at the surface hot enough to melt lead, while Uranus is typically not visible without a telescope.
What you actually meant is a mystery to me, but that happens a lot to me on this board.
edit - my comment about cold air was basic science, just to be clear (pun intended).

Venus has hot air. It's still bright.

I have been reading all the responses on this board since she attacked me that way, but thanks for the advice.
However, if you are attacking me for my pointing out why planets and stars will be brighter for someone on the surface of this planet when the temperature in their location is below freezing you don't have science on your side, so what is you point.
You just want to make points with Dendro? The Mean Girls club wants to try to bully me? You were on Wells and should know that doesn't work.
Pretty sure, other than the cloud layers being more reflective, that Venus's temperature, since Venus's temperature is fairly consistent, has little to do with it appearing brighter at under some weather conditions or at some points of time, when it is closer to Earth.

I don't have a sense of humor, I said so in both my profiles. (Trapper Gus & TrapperGus)
Engineers don't do humor so expect serious responses unless it is flagged as a joke or as sarcasm.
btw - I did my best to be funny, back at him, but like I said, Engineers don't do humor, and I didn't flag it, so there it is.
