ITT we list our stupid remedies for the cold/flue season, that have worked for you.
So, we're at the last tailgate after Thanksgiving and my wife asks me "when was the last time you were sick", cause I had jumped out of the Truck and was talking to people for a while without a jacket on. I thought, hoy hell, I hadn't had the cold or flu of any kind for at least 18 months. That's without a flu shot too. But I said, thanks you've jinxed me. Any, I got it bad this week, really bad. Fever, cough, stuffy nose that is runny. I'm a fucking mess.
I know, week to ten days I'll be fine.
However, any of you guys have stupid remedies to alive the misery? Dayquil did absolutely nothing for me yesterday. Maybe cut the fever a bit. Is there a can't miss over the counter drug out there for you? I'm more miserable than usual, and I didn't even drink last night.

You should get a flu shot dwags. Especially at your advanced age.

That sucks and I hope you feel better soon. My strategy for beating a cold is rest and fluids. I find going to the bathroom sort of helps pass the infection quicker. I’ve had success with NyQuil as well.

Not an anti-vaxxer and I have not done any research and I'm not influenced by any wacko left/right news or websites or social media.
Does the flu shot really do anything? I used to get it but then I thought I heard that it only protects against one strain of the flu and it's rarely the one that is prevalent.

Hot sauce to clear the sinuses, whiskey and weed to sleep soundly. Drink lots of water and/or OJ, and maybe eat some bananas.

I never got it until we had the baby. As long as you’re relatively young and not immune compromised or prone to getting pneumonia, it’s fine. They base our flu vaccine on whatever strain is going around Asian countries, as that is usually what ends up here, but sometimes it’s another strain entirely. I read that even if the vaccine is the wrong flu, it still lessens the severity of the illness but I didn’t see the data behind that claim.
Wags: half a teaspoon of ground dried cayenne pepper in hot water. Soothes the throat and clears the sinuses.

Your doctor says you should get it and it is free, so probably just get it. Unless you think that doctors are running a world wide conspiracy to brain control you and it’s taking too long for them to do it successfully, you should probably just get it.WhiteBoyHatcher wrote:Not an anti-vaxxer and I have not done any research and I'm not influenced by any wacko left/right news or websites or social media.

Don’t confuse authority with expertise. Only stubborn people do that. Not that you should blindly just follow an expert either. But if you go in believing they’re just throwing their power around instead of giving you advice based on their knowledge, why even go to the doctor?

I use Zicam tablets and Oscillococcinum medicine to reduce the length of the cold, and hammer Nyquil in the evening.

I've been getting the flu shot since 2006 and have not had the flu since. That was also the year I quit drinking alcohol. Draw your own conclusions.

First job was at a drug store. The owner/pharmacist advised taking many thousands of milligrams of vitamin C as soon as you felt you had cold symptoms. Tried it a number of times and it seemed to work.

So not true. The doctors in my MK-Ultra study told me those were all lies.

My doctor retired a couple of years ago and now I’m stuck seeing the PA because I’m not a fan of any of the remaining staff. Please post pics of your doctor so I can see if she is hot enough to drive more than a half hour for an exam. I’m still seeing Travis’ dentist, cuz, you know,

I get a flu shot and a pneumonia shot.
Aerobic exercise also strengthens the immune system. I take some immune system supplements. Not sure if they work but if I think they work, they're beneficial.
Also, be conscientious about being around sick folks. Wash your hands.. I do my best not to touch door knobs, drinking fountains, etc.
Beyond all of this, I figure if you're gonna get sick, you're gonna get sick. Stay home and rest.

As a kid my parents followed the advice of doctors and the media. Started out drinking whole milk, then 2%. By the time I got to State I was drinking skim. Occasionally drank whole when skim wasn't available but it seemed really heavy and I didn't care for it.Robert J Sakimano wrote:I don't really like milk. Or eggs.LooseGoose wrote:

First tried raw milk about 20 years ago. Was very skeptical before doing it, figuring it would be even heavier than pasteurized, homogenized whole milk. Was completely shocked at how good it was.
I'll never understand dislike of eggs cooked any way. Personal favorites are soft boiled, poached, and sunny side up. Hollandaise sauce is awesome. No idea how that culinary goofball Fieri has kept his job all these years.

it would be eggs. Nothing else gives you the versatility.
Chicken would be #2, unless you could count "pig" as one item.
