Bracketology 2021
I'm of the mindset that Duke and MSU get in. I think at this point Duke will earn their way in they look like a sweet sixteen elite 8 team now. UNC is supposedly playing top tier ball right now as well.
It's a weird year and I think if the NCAA wants a good product next month they'd be stupid to keep MSU out of the tournament.

I think both Duke and MSU get in.
Lunardi moved IU off the Last 4 In to Last 4 Bye. If we beat IU again, that's obviously good for us (and if they take 10 Big Ten teams).
Minnesota (Last 4 In) is in trouble without Gabe Kalscheur.
He has Duke First 4 out, and MSU barely out of the Next 4 out at this point.

MSU last two games with Rocket engaged looks like a classic Izzo team to my eye. Every sports league has made exceptions this past year no reason to believe the NCAA won't do the same. You gotta get eye balls on the tv sets and streaming services. No Duke or MSU is a bad product. I think both are playing at a level now where it will be quality games.

I don't think an exception will be made necessarily.
Duke could still finish 5th in the ACC. That's good enough any year.
And if the NCAA takes 10 Big Ten teams, MSU could get in ahead of IU, Maryland, or Minnesota.

On a tangent, what's your take on the current PG situation and the second coming of Rocket?

I haven't reviewed them. But I'm sure they're not "second coming" of anything.

If we combine Loyer and Hoggards point total for the season it doesn't eclipse the total of Watts.

I think Jesus Watts is showing more confidence in his ballhandling and driving. That's good news for this team.

Based on what?
IMO they need to finish 3-2 in the last 5 games. Which means at least 1 W against OSU/Mich/Mich. Just noticed we play Mich back-to-back. I think that actually helps us a bit. Also can't shit the bed in the BIG Tournie. I assume that is still a go. Loved the toughness last night. Looks like Izzo/Watts/Langford/Hoggiebear have figured out they need to attack the basket more because they can't shoot threes. More Bingham and Sissko down the stretch.
I'll hang up and listen.

Kingston provided a range of games and Loyer has played some of the games in there. For example Loyer played 25 minutes vs PSU and had 0 points.

BTW that is two years in a row Bingham has dominated Cockburn at the Brez. He was definitely frustrated with Bingham swatting shots and Sissko's physicality. Need more of that against the other dominate bigs in our conference.

Steve I think you should cool your jets a little on the "second coming of Watts" take is all I'm saying. He had a decent game last night. The previous four weren't anything to write home about. If your bar of success is being better than Hoggard and Loyer...... He still struggles mightily at point. And I'm pretty sure Izzo took the ball out of his hands down the stretch.

My unsophisticated opinion is that it seemed like Henry was running some point, and even Langford a few possessions. I could be mistaken, but it wouldn't be the first time Izzo did some experimenting with slightly non-traditional point guards. Alan Anderson had a good run, as I recall.kingstonlake wrote:Steve I think you should cool your jets a little on the "second coming of Watts" take is all I'm saying. He had a decent game last night. Agree. Especially when Illini started full court presser. IMO we have multiple dudes that can handle the ball (that doesn't mean they can run the point), which is a good thing in that situation. Also believe that Hauser should not be in the backcourt on press breaks. Yikes.

I don't see the game like a coach, but I don't fully understand why Hauser is still seeing more PT than Malik Hall. Hauser is a little better shooter, but I'm not convinced he's better than Hall at anything else. But I think I'm a bit higher on Malik Hall than most.Nordic wrote:Cameron wrote:

13pts and 45.5% from FG. Averages 17.4 & 67% with a shit ton of games over 75% FG. Only vs Iowa (9 & 28.5%) & Duke (13 & 44.4%) has he had a worse stat line. I didn't see those games, but I did see the frustration on his face last night (and he punched Mady in the back of the head). If you want to Nigel this shit up on the definition of dominated, do it on tGreenway's show. He got his ass handed to him last night (and last year at the Brez).

Kofi was frustrated. He played 24 minutes. Bingham played 12 (I'd guess 8 of those were with Kofi on the floor).
Pretty sure Bingham fouled Kofi 3 times.
So, if Bingham is responsible for Kofi missing FTs, then yeah..."dominated".

I'm all for getting the ball in Henry's hands at the end of the game but I also want Rocket on the floor at the end as well. Leading up to that part of the game Rocket is better than the other two.
Also, his D is better than the other two.
