5 days later was the first football Saturday. MSU beat Notre Dame behind great games from Lo White and Dave Yarema. George beat Lou Holtz that day and the bar rang $7500 in sales. Barely covering the inventory and combined weekly salaries of $550 a week.
Good times

I remember the oysters. There were some characters around back in the day.

Gary was a good dude and helped put us on the map. Before he went solo he played with a hot chick named Patty and they were called Souvenir. The stage was of pieces of ply wood propped up by cases of empty beer bottles.

I remember Souvenir as well. Patty was indeed hot. Had a Christine McVie kind of voice.

Both were very talented. Killed it with Burning Down the House, Hands Across the Water etc. Amazing how two people with guitars, mics and a drum machine could rock (and pack) the house. Cover was 2 bucks.

Gary nailed Elton John's Madman Across The Water too. It was a good 5 years for me as well Heat.

The chili cheese fries at Dog Pound was the best I ever had. Perfect after bar grub. Something got lost in the recipe when it became Top Dog. In 35 years, I've yet to find anything that comes close to the Dog Pound formula & it's not for lack of looking.

That alley location was hella hot and always packed to the gills and always a good time, especially with Jerry Sprague in the window.
We were thrilled when they made the move, but something changed in the new/current location. Couldn’t ever put my finger on it except to say it lost the feel of the original PT’s. Quickly lost interest because it never felt the same.

regardless, Happy Anniversary, Duff - a lot of work and stress, I'm sure, but it has to be a good feeling knowing so many people have such great memories of your place.

Thanks Bob. I always wanted to be Joe Bell when I grew up and made it 25 years. Most proud of all of my former employees. Many went on to do amazing things. Also the countless marriages that resulted from hanging out in a bar. (and probably many divorces)

Joe and Jennifer have definitely done it the right way. They're transitioning things over to Megan, it seems.

Yes of course Jingles is going. His wing man for this trip is a recently retired big wig with the Spartan Fund. I highly recomend you find them as doors will swing open.DWags wrote:duffy munn wrote:

First time I met this dude was in Indy in 2011. WE went without tickets so Jingles said let's swing by the team hotel. Spartan fund guy appears and asks if we need tickets. Bingo bango we have our own suite in the lower level at the 40 yard line. Sidenote: I think I was the only spartan in the stadium who saw the flag for roughing the kicker.

Restaurants/bars I remember:
Beggar's Banquet
Lizard's Lounge
El Azteco...both EL and Lansing locations
Dooley's
Pan Tree
Pretzel Bell
Alley Eye/Players Club
the place west of Harrison, north of Trowbridge that had decent clam chowder. Think the name started with an H?
the bar at the Harley Hotel senior year was excellent. Had a great jazz band playing 4 nights a week.
the place a block off Grand River that had a Bluegrass band Thursday nights
Silver Dollar
MAC's
Westside
never went to Coral Gables
At least a dozen other places I can't remember
