Minnesota played five guys until there were 3:40 left in the game. They were a 14 seed with a snowballs chance in hell to advance. Their coach came to my dark side and said screw it, I’m going down swinging. Best five played.

Look, I was a JV basketball coach for 3 games. I know what I’m talking about. My philosophy in a do or die contest would be: I’ll take my best player at 80% then a guy off the bench who is only 70% of that player. Now I don’t know if my math is correct, but unless any of you coached more games at a higher level than me you’re just going to have to acquiesce to my line of thinking.

(Honestly playing only five isnt my point Duffy. It’s when I see Hoggard make a steal then layup disrupt a pass then make another shot and get an assist in between there and there is a stoppage and he comes out is what confuses me. Sometimes it seems we have one or two guys just tearing it up, no mistakes, all pluses. Then it’s like some arbitrary clock goes off and they get subbed out. That’s what makes my bunions hurt)

kid from Iowa fires up a three (and hits it) with less than 20 seconds to go, up 30 or so.

McCaffery was pissed. To Chris Collins's credit, in the handshake line, he grabbed (grabbed!) McCaffery's hand graciously, you could see him being like "dude, it's okay".. McCaffery was still pissed.

also, credit to Collins for not punching anyone.

I suck at BBall. So at MSU I'd put on a jacket and tie, roll up a magazine & "coach" intramural games. Yell at the refs, stomp around, & generally be a distraction. Does that count as higher level than JV?

I coached a regional travel 6th grade team... I volunteered for the B team (my kid wasn't happy)... we got to the finals for the year end tourney.

Wife didn't let me do a year 2 cause of the swearing.

I coached both of my boys from 3rd grade until they went to high school. Big fun and memorable stories.

Had a kid in 5th grade who had 66 rebounds in one game. 50 of them were on his own misses from really close range. He finished with 4 points.

Had a kid tell me in an early saturday morning pregame huddle that "I smelled like his Dad". Yes, I was out late friday night.

Also coached some talented players. 3 played on a state championship team at Lansing Catholic
