Let's be realistic. Ford Field will be 30%+ PSU fuckers that day. And let's not forget the random Walmarters with nothing better to do in their SCum gear, who will of course be shown on TV. Spartan fans will be gone be the end of the 3rd quarter. SCummers and the Detroit rags will eat it up. I like Haller & Tuck. And I want them to succeed. But this decision seems dumb to me. Embarrassment potential of getting blown out in prime time on national TV is very high. Also could damage recruiting heading into the off season with no bowl either.
Hope I'm completely wrong and this is a great success, but I don't really see the upside other than maybe $$$. What about all the suite holders at SS? Do they get transferred to suites at FF?
Holy shit...maybe I can get a suite at FF. A potential silver lining emerges.

But if you don’t mind, I’m not gonna give the big 10 or our administration any leeway here and come up with reasons that it’s a good thing that MSU is getting fucked out of a home game with Penn State.
I’ll be at the game fat and tired from eating turkey and pumpkin pie. I will Uber home or I will stay downtown Detroit. I will enjoy a Spartan victory iand James Franklin choking again, but I will not forgive those people that have insulted my university and kicked us in the face nor will I give them the courtesy of saying thank you for kicking me in the head it’s really gonna be a good thing.
It's still kind of a "home" game. We're controlling the tickets. We're not giving Penn State half. If it's packed, then the consumer will have decided it was a better option than being outside. You've been to enough of these games. It's embarrassing how few people show up for the last game. Maybe this will change that.
"Home field" advantage is determined by the fans. If we sell it out, that has to be better than what we've seen in the past at Spartan Stadium.

I'm not sure that many Penn State fans will be super excited to go to Ford Field on Black Friday. If they're undefeated? Maybe. But the same thing would probably happen at Spartan Stadium then.

They won't ask because they get preferential treatment, and they have gotten that treatment for so long they are comfortable telling the B10 to f$%k off without consequence. You're more-or-less answering your own questions.

The game was already played in Western Vegas Schilling time. WBH knows the score but won't tell anybody.

Hence my comment about at least making them spend their money in EL, not Detroit. EL merchants need the revenue from those home games.

If we sold out a 100,000 seat stadium like OSU and UM do all the time, then they probably wouldn't have asked us. But we don't.
We'll probably make more ticket revenue off of a Ford Field game. OSU and UM wouldn't.
Not rocket science.

Then the money grab doesn't make much sense to me. Plus:
1. Pay to haul all the necessary shit to/from Detroit.
2. If hosting recruits, now they've got to go to/from Detroit.
3. Unknown if you can sell enough tix to replace and exceed guaranteed $ from already sold season tix. 65k FF capacity v 72k SS capacity.
4. SS vendors/security/etc. all lose a day's pay.
I'm sure the AD bean counters have calculated all this, but I'm thinking this isn't going to be a very big money maker.

Yep. Being 24 year EL merchant I can tell you every home game is critical to the bottom line and you only get 6 this year. Sucks big time for them.

I hope we were smart enough to get any extra expenses covered.
I think the revenue will be higher at Ford Field. Ticket prices will be higher. Chances of getting 65,000 at Ford Field are better than at Spartan Stadium.
The way they announced it seemed to indicate there would be a lot of blowback (unless I missed a press conference).
I might go. Highly unlikely I'd go at Spartan Stadium (unless it was a big game).
And you might get more season tickets holders to attend at Ford Field. At the end of the year, a lot of people get worn out (and if it's cold...forget it). If it's a separate purchase (and inside), they might attend.
Pretty clear the Athletic Department doesn't give a crap about local businesses (which sucks).

"Why would you want to stay at 5-7 Michigan State when it snows in October when you could be at 5-7 Auburn where it's 55° and cloudy on Thanksgiving weekend"?
This could be a direct play at that narrative. I ain't saying it is, but I'm saying that it wouldn't surprise me in the current environment.
"Okay, go to Auburn, Ole Miss, Florida State..get your ass kicked on Thanksgiving weekend in some game on some random channel.. MSU will be primetime on NBC, Black Friday at Ford Field".
Again. Speculating.

James Franklin is scared of East Lansing weather after 2021. He probably demanded the B10 move the game and they happily obliged after Nigel provided them with attendance data.

There are definitely some pros to it (I think we've covered all of the cons).
And I'm fine with it. I think it will be a better fan experience (once inside in the warmth).
But, the narrative has been that we are helping out our TV partners by doing this.
I want some help back then. Night game vs. UM at Spartan Stadium? Another game televised on NBC? Izzo mentioned some of our basketball games might be streamed on Peacock? Nope. We want them all on "regular" channels.
And so many unanswered questions...do we get a cut of concessions? Do we get all in-stadium ad revenue generated during the game? It's basically a 4 hour commercial for Ford (Field). How much is that worth?
Maybe our athletic department knows all this stuff. Maybe I don't need to.
Going to the Lions Thanksgiving day game and MSU the next day is appealing to me. Sitting in the cold isn't.
