Looking back through the feed this morning, a second chick hatched overnight.

Looks like we have three chicks and one egg that remains unhatched. Most likely it is the fourth egg that was laid two days after she started incubating and hopefully it will hatch in the next day or two.

4th egg still hasn't hatched. Mom fed the rest then took off to get rid of the carcass. Little buggers seem to fall asleep immediately, sort of helping incubate the unhatched.

First time I've seen mom not stick the landing. Fell through the opening maybe half hour ago. Starting to wonder if that last egg is going to hatch.

Mom picked the egg up around 9:25 this morning and dropped it on the stadium roof.

Very interesting to see. To me she intended to fly it some ways away, but the piece of the shell she was holding broke and it dropped. She seemed unsure what to do after that. But she had to get it out of there, I saw one of the chicks picking at it yesterday.

FWIW, from what I could see over the last couple of days, there was still a dead chick inside. I am not sure what happened - if the chick started to break out and just wasn't strong enough or the shell broke from some outside force. But it was clear it was no longer viable.

Looked like that to me too. Looked like she hopped down to the roof. Edge of the roof is right in front of the nest. Wonder if she was able to carry it away from there or drop it off the roof.

All three are in view now, though the floofiest is hiding its head in the corner.
btw, Addict said once the birds leave the nest,for good, they are out on their own. It’s not like the family has get togethers.

They're getting bigger and badder. Not as clumsy on their feet and venturing to look over the front wall. Wing spans look to be over a foot.

If you need to know what they smell like you can drive past the chicken farms along I-96 near Ionia. Take your dog so he knows too, then he can point them out to you when you go to SS

Wild sequence little while ago. Dad brought kill back and one of the chicks took it away before he could start feeding them. Then one of the others took it away. Dad took off. Two of them ended up piecing the bird out together. Don't recall last year's brood being that aggressive. The club better get these things banded in the next couple days or they might take a piece of someone's finger.

The banding experience appears to have mom reevaluating her security protocol. She was on the roof of the nest for a long time afterward. Little while ago she was on the roof of the stadium under the nest looking things over.
