From what I’ve been listening to he’s got no shot. There’s to many hard No’s. Probably a good idea. I don’t think Gym is a good look for the GOP come mid terms.
Odd how they have a lot of these types and they’re in positions of power….

posted this yesterday in the thread that specifically mocks their inability to even choose a leader:
it would be a gift to Democrats if Gym is elected speaker.from what I've read, a combination of mainstream media pressure and GOP dysfunction might give 'ol Gym the speakership.
man, as I said earlier, it's almost like the GOP wants to lose the House next year while driving up voter turnout of an otherwise lukewarm Dem base/suburban independents not excited about voting for Biden.
that said, it's looking less and less likely. And it would be funny if their sheer incompetence didn't have such profound and tragic consequences for America.

The legislation also extends farm bill programs through September, the end of the current fiscal year. That addition was an important win for some farm-state lawmakers. Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wis., for example, warned that without the extension, milk prices would have soared and hurt producers back in his home state.
Sometimes the MSM puts the most important part in the last sentence....

The Republicans are a dysfunctional party. Democrats may have their disputes but when push comes to shove, they vote virtually in lockstep with leadership.

heard that yesterday alone, Kevin McCarthy elbowed someone, one of the fine christian patriot republican/libertarian senators wanted to beat someone up during a hearing, and another republican/libertarian Rep was accused of doing whatever the media says that Hunter Biden/Joe Biden did and the christian Rep got sad and screaming at someone during that committee hearing.
it's almost like fragile, insecure christian white men are the problem.

WASHINGTON — U.S. House Republicans and Senate Democrats attempting to avert a partial government shutdown brokered an agreement Wednesday to extend government funding deadlines for a little while longer.
The bipartisan deal will give Congress until March 8 to pass six spending bills lawmakers have finalized and until March 22 to pass another six bills still in negotiations that provide crucial funding for defense, health care and homeland security.
The agreement comes five months into the fiscal year, well past the deadline that lawmakers were supposed to meet for fiscal 2024. If enacted, the short-term spending extensions would avoid a partial government shutdown that would have begun for some agencies on Friday at midnight and the rest on March 8.
The House will likely put the bill up under suspension of the rules, which requires two-thirds support for passage. And the Senate will need approval of all 100 of its members, including several who enjoy holding up government funding deals, to meet that timeline.

While it is not unusual for it to take several months after it is due to pass the appropriation bills the Republican House in the 118th Congress seems hell bent on being the least effecting Congress ever. Last I checked they had passed something like 25 bills and 23 of them were the naming of post offices.
Next big bill is aid for Ukraine.

Next big bill is aid for Ukraine.
The Senate passed the $1.2 trillion spending package that the House had approved Friday, avoiding a government shutdown even though the vote was two hours after the midnight deadline Saturday.
Why it matters: The package, which now goes to the White House for President Biden's signature, will fund federal agencies such as the Departments of Homeland Security, Defense and Labor through the end of September.
The Senate approved the bill on a 74-24 vote just after 2 a.m. EDT, ending a long night in the chamber in which Republicans offered a series of amendments that were rejected or set aside.

The Democrats have a legit great candidate running against her. It would be amazing to flip that seat. There might be enough educated moderates outside of Chattanooga and Atlanta in that district that don't want her nonsense and embarrassment.

I'm somewhat familiar with that district and it's pretty deep red.gomersbro wrote:kingstonlake wrote:MTG is a complete and utter embarrassment. White trash pretty much covers it.

I suspect the best we could hope for down the road is a more decent person running against her in a primary.

Well at least they are working on one of the more important Bills that Congress votes on, and yes, I am serious, this is not sarcasm.
WASHINGTON — The U.S. House Agriculture Committee Friday released the draft bill text of the long-awaited $1.5 trillion farm bill, which is likely to face opposition in the Senate from Democrats due to disagreements over federal anti-hunger programs and climate change requirements.
The chair of the committee, GOP Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson of Pennsylvania, said in a statement that the bill, which will set farm, nutrition, commodity and conservation policy for the next five years, is a “product of extensive feedback from stakeholders and all Members of the House, and is responsive to the needs of farm country through the incorporation of hundreds of bipartisan policies.”
The legislation funds programs across 12 titles for five years.
It would boost rural farming, promote a new global market for farmers to sell their products abroad, require new reporting requirements for the foreign purchase of farmland, increase funding for specialty crops and expand eligibility for disaster assistance, among other initiatives.
“The markup is one step in a greater House process, that should not be compromised by misleading arguments, false narratives, or edicts from the Senate,” Thompson said.
The House Agriculture Committee plans to mark up the 942-page bill on Thursday. It is expected to cost $1.5 trillion over 10 years. A title-by-title summary can be found here.
In a statement, the top Democrat on the committee, Rep. David Scott of Georgia, slammed the draft bill for “taking food out of the mouths of America’s hungry children, restricting farmers from receiving the climate-smart conservation funding they so desperately need, and barring the USDA from providing financial assistance to farmers in times of crisis.”
Scott warned that the current draft bill is unlikely to pass the House. Although Republicans have a slim majority, any piece of legislation will have to be bipartisan in order to make it through the Senate, which Democrats control.
Well at least they are working on one of the more important Bills that Congress votes on, and yes, I am serious, this is not sarcasm.
The current farm bill extension expires Sept. 30.
On the Senate side, Sen. Debbie Stabenow, a Michigan Democrat who leads the Committee on Agriculture, released Democrats’ own proposal in early May. Among other things, it would boost eligibility for nutrition programs for low-income people like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. Stabenow made public a summary of the bill, but not legislative text.
Scott and Stabenow released a joint statement Tuesday following a meeting with House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Democrats on the House Agriculture committee. They advocated for Republicans to craft a bipartisan farm bill.

Into the final 4 months of the 118th Congress and all they have done is pass bills when Biden forced them to...
The Republican Party is broken, and really cannot be called a "Party" anymore.

They could rename it to the Weird and Batschit Crazy Party. Maybe that will help bring them together again and Donold the Felon can make some valid claims about crowd size.

Thom Hartman details the resulfts of Republican governace of states in the link.

Based on the fucked up 118th House results the Republicans are trying to achieve the same dismal results for the country.
Hopefully after the election they can get a sane version through of one of the most important Acts Congress does the farm bill.

Speaker Johnson says he will not call the House back to consider extra funding for the hurricanes.
Of course like many things he is too stupid to know that the Constitution give the President the power to order Congress back into secession. which Biden will do if he thinks it is needed.
