Do we need a poll? In case you haven't noticed, we aren't exactly a representative sample of the party. Even with our extremist and idealists population I think a no vote would win in a simple poll of "should we ban guns?"
As best as I can tell, based on comments on here, I am the only one in the Ban Guns camp.

Do you own any semi-automatic pistols with a magazine capacity of more than 6 rounds? They will want those, too.
I think you’re reasonable enough to admit the NRA and gun manufacturers created the unsolvable problem to the benefit of themselves. They played the long game very well.
Let’s be honest. If the reason was tons of guns to stop big government bogey man….. Big government bogey man would have never let it happen to begin with…

No, but other than a shotgun, 22 and 30-06 don't need anything else.TravelinMan wrote:AvgMSUJoe wrote:I own a plethora of guns... I do not own any military style assault wea... well... Which is what practical gun owners are talking about. & I would venture to guess 85% of Michigan Ds own one of these.

Maybe I'm in the minority.. which is fine. That's the point of controversial 'diversity' as it relates to fragile republicans/libertarians..
But I've never felt threatened in any way.. from NYC to Chicago to DC to Detroit to Atlanta to Miami to San Francisco..
But I feel more uncomfortable in Dewitt than I do in any of the places above where fragile republican/libertarian want me want me to be afraid of.
I guess I should carry an assault rifle and walk around in Dewitt.
My god we're a stupid country.

Well, in Dewitt, out of 311 arrests made, 91% were for low-level, non-violent offenses from 2013-21. Also, the average response time for police to a critical call is under 5 minutes.
So you're probably safe enough. No need to get an Uzi.

Re: Just another day in paradise - Ban Guns!
I am always surprised at the fear of a Minority Report country the gun lobby uses and is repeated here.
I'm also confident that the people repeating the bullshit of:
"THEY"RE COMING FOR YOUR GUNS! EVEN SEMI-AUTOMATICS 10 SHOT MAGAZINE RUGER 22's!
don't believe the bullshit they type here.
The USA has too many unregistered guns floating about to ever take all of them. However the bullshit right up there with immigrants are eating your pets to justify doing nothing.

Half of them are too stupid to know any better and believe the lies. The other half are rich and care more about their 401k than basic human decency.
And make no mistake about it, the fact that Democratics make no secret about knowing and understanding the above is what drives them crazy and makes them hate us and dig their heels in even further.

I agree, that's my recollection as well but i was being generous to the ban side.
Most of us are probably pretty far left compared to the average person in this country and most of us don't want or intend to support gun banning.
I'd be completely OK with strong assault weapons legislation making it very difficult to get them (but non impossible). Other than that, i think we need to better support our middle class and that will go a long way to making people more sane.

Okemos is basically a strip mall.. and there's no room at the inn in the great town of East Lansing.

For a third year in a row, in 2022 — the most recent year of finalized data — firearms were the leading cause of death for children and teens ages 1 to 17, according to a report from the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions.
