The legalization and subsequent proliferation of sports gambling was a mistake
I know some of you love that shit but it’s getting out of control. Setting aside things like the absurdity of the national football league brought to you by fanduel suspending players for betting on non nfl games, this kind of shit is scary.

To me it’s brought on by of course the proliferation of it, just more people are doing it, but also by pasting ads for it everywhere around sports, you’re taking it out of the shadows and into the mainstream. That gives psychos license to think they can say whatever the hell they want after they made some stupid bet about the number of yards there would be in the first half or whatever.
I dunno man. It just seems like this is getting to be a bigger and bigger problem that doesn’t need to be happening.

Doesn’t mean we have to ruin it for everyone.

Was not happy when Michigan legalized online betting, knowing I'd eventually get sucked into it.
I'm terrible at sports bets. Likely win less than 20% of them...do mostly parlays. I'd like poster Tim Wakefield to chime in on this. IIRC stated a while back that he'd quit his regular job and was making his living gambling.
The worst part of online gambling for me is the casino availability. The wins are fun, but know I'm down in the low 5 figures.

That is usually how life works though. Protecting people from themselves

No, despite destroying you guys year after year after year in the pick em (see avatar for reminder), I’ve literally never bet on sports. I’m smart enough to know that I don’t know anything about what will happen any given gameAvgMSUJoe wrote:(travis lost his shirt on the playoffs last night)

You know why else it sucks? Just like fantasy football, it ruins conversations about sports. Here’s the nasty truth sports gamblers, nobody gives a shit that you got the raiders -2 in the second half and the panthers to gain over 117 yards in the first quarter on a parlay. No one cares at all. Shut up

I do think it should be legal, but I think advertising it probably shouldn't be. Like cigarettes, I guess.
I was pretty into gambling for a while when it was newly legal. Seems like after a year or two, the easy money promo bets mostly dried up as they got their "customer base" installed and didn't need to pull anyone new in quite as much, and I stopped having fun when I started losing more than I won, so I'm pretty much completely off it now. Paid the rent for a couple months back in 2021 though, that felt cool.

Love the apps and the money they hand out....When they give you VIP status they just hand you more free money, tickets to events, VIP tickets to games...Most of the profit is in betting both sides of a line to come out to as close to even as possible or make a little profit, doing this churns promos and builds points/status...Rinse and repeat. For example CZ gave me 2 deposit promos on Friday for a free $350 which after playthrough was a free and clear $300 of profit.

Yep, it’s as bad as CFB game announcers only ever talking about who is going to make the CFBP.
