cool - so you should be okay with me talking about your expensive dinners while pretending to be worried about the price of eggs instead of arguing with me about it.TravelinMan wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:

so, as I've mentioned before, we have a different set of values based on lived experiences. And I kinda like it that way.

I just can't believe you find it that note worthy. You've ruminated on this meal more than I have at this point.

I totally get this sentiment, but I think it’s probably pretty easy for us to say that as white upper middle class men that certainly won’t be hurt by these policies, you know except for that impending doom of climate change one, but the others don’t really hurt us and in fact are largely geared to benefit us.DWags wrote:NigelUno wrote:

I don't know, just rubber stamp everything if you're the Dems. Show america what the "find out" part of FAFO is.
Millions of other people will be hurt though. Constituents of the same democrats that we’d say should just say fuck it and let it happen. For that reason, they cannot.

At this point whether or not Gaetz gets confirmed isn't even the biggest thing to me. ( he probably will because republics are spineless). It's the fact that Trump and his cult think the nomination is ok

It's what happens when immoral racist, bigoted misogynists are conditioned by the mainstream media to pretend to care about the price of eggs.
For them, it's either vote for a convicted rapist or vote for a woman of color.

They’ll cave. They’ll all cave. They always do.Especially if it makes it to hearing phase. There will be inside negotiations on who gets the “honor” to vote no in total to just fall short of him not being confirmed.
The only thing that will stop his confirmation is an “accidental” leak of the report.

they just elected a convicted rapist and a 34 time convicted felon whose stated goal is to terminate the Constitution.
I'd be shocked if the racist, bigoted, christian sexual predator, convicted rapist and convicted felon's pathetic orbit of immoral christian sleazebags didn't include 3-4 rapists, purveyors of sexual assault and pedophiles.

His influence will be on a downward path as his time grows short. That is what a lame duck elected official is.
I have done my best over the years to open eyes as to what the goal of the Republican Party, owned by its big money doners, is, to little avail.
We, the 99%, were in big trouble when the Republicans used their train wreak economy in 2009 to gerrymander the states and take the US House with a minority of the people's votes.
It only became worse from there.
Now that they own the courts, the Presidency and the Congress have really limited power to help the 99% and almost unlimited power, if they are Republican run, to hand everything over to the 1%, which has been the goal of people like the Kochs for the last 60 years.
I can only tell you to do one thing, and it will not work because there are too many people who should believe, and do not. That one thing is to vote for only Democratic candidates.
Do you understand what I mean by fighting on the correct battlefield?

You seem incredibly passionate about all of this, but...you want someone else to fight for you? To do what exactly?
Here's my 2 cents...I could be wrong...your life wasn't impacted that much when Trump was President...or when Biden was President...or when Obama was President...it just wasn't. The President doesn't have that much of an impact on anyone's day to day life. I mean...it does if you let it from a mental perspective I guess. But financially? I doubt it.
Check out for a week from political nonsense. Find something else to do. And then evaluate if you missed anything...if you really missed anything. If your life is going to be negatively impacted that much by who is President, then look for other options.
Maybe that's a selfish way to look at it. I don't know.
Imploring someone else to fight for you is a cop out, in my opinion. But, I could be an asshole.
My life will personally be impacted by trump s tariffs policy, and not in the higher prices paid kind of way. I am NOT looking forward to all the freak outs I'm gonna get in my job which takes place as part of the automotive supply chain, I oversee pricing on components from all over the world. There's going to be much strife about pricing I'm going to have to deal with.
Second, I never said I wouldn't fight, but I will be far from the most effective fighter due to my personal baggage (family). A retired old dude can do so much more than I can and in so many ways with zero repercussion whereas a lot of that stuff I would have to worry about harming my family.

Okay, so you don't know what I'm talking about when I refer to the new battlefield.
This is a new age, we can't just do the right thing and expect to win. We can't play by the old rules. We need to relentlessly pressure our side to join the correct battle, we need mass influence campaigns (don't take that negatively, these can be truthful and positive). and we need them now. You can help pressure our politicians for that. If we don't, we will be ceding the proverbial airwaves to the Republicans and their foreign allies willing to fill the space. We need new strategies to actually reach new people. This is part of that but I can think of a bunch of different ways. The number 1 thing is the mid term campaign should start today.

Oh, you mean like the emails I send my Senators, Representatives, President about actions I read about in the news that they are considering.
You can do that too.
That and campaign contributions are what they listen to, however the reality is that when you have billions and give hundreds of millions you have a much louder voice than any of us.
They pushed Biden, whose economics were the best we have seen since LBJ, out because he was going to increase taxes slightly on the billionairs, and have slightly stronger antitrust enforcement, who pay the big bucks to the Democratic Party.
It sucks but without a global depression and a voter revolution to progressive Democratics we are not in a good place.
As far as the press, that battle was lost back during Reagan & Clinton. Ship has sailed and without a counter revolution to the Reagon & Trump revolution it's not coming back.

I'm not convinced that will even do it. These fucks at the end of the day are spineless. Fisk I mean Trump wants a lackey as AG and he's going to get it. No "reports" in the last 8 years have been impactful enough to put enough pressure on Republicans in that span to actually do the right thing. None of that crap matters anymore as we are now so used to being outraged and moving on. They simply have to vote him in, ignore the outrage for a couple days and have trump announce an anti dog and cat eating executive order or have him do some other dumbass thing to help people move on to something else. We live in a stupid easily manipulated society at present.

To be fair to those spineless wimps, the people who pay for their campaigns are going to tell them to vote for Trump's picks or no more money. Politics is pretty easy if you follow the money.
