It makes certain people sad.

Gaetz withdraws.
Reports by CNN of a second encounter from the victim. Which CNN told him they were going public with.
BTW. How is Garland still employed?

Re: Matt Gaetz has been nominated for Attorney General
Looks like Gaetz has some things in his past he doesn't want made public:
Gaetz withdraws as Trump’s attorney general pick
He resigned from his old job as a congressman, I suppose he'll go crawling back to it

Gaetz was just part of a plan so that when he's out we all breath a sigh of relief and accept whoever is Trump's preferred nominee anyway.

Yeah. I don't think going back is an option.
Reports are saying as he resigned from the 118th Congress and has been elected to the 119th Congress he could return to his seat in January.
Don't know if ethics investigations can carry over to the next Congress

Re: Matt Gaetz has been nominated for Attorney General
My cynic voice has been telling me that Gaetz was a false flag nominee all along.
I believe the political pros in the Trump camp knew full well Gaetz for AG was DOA but with some fancy footwork Gaetz resigned that got the Congressional report that’s been talked about for years buried from getting into The Congressional Record. That report might have named others who don’t want to be identified so that all goes away. Back to leaks that are always denied. Then as others noted Gaetz can be sworn in Jan 2025.
The fact Trump named former FL AG Pam Bondi within hours makes me think this was a classic bait and switch. Like her or not no one can say she isn’t experienced as attorney. She’ll be confirmed using “at least she’s not Gaetz” logic.

Kingston, there are advantages of flooding the cabinet nomination with people who have so much baggage.
First and foremost as I alluded to with Bondi nominated so quickly after Gaetz. She gets confirmed because “At least she’s better than Gaetz”. Same for whoever replaces Linda McMahon at DoEd, RFK’s replacement for HHS and Dr Oz. All of them are inexperienced and can be frustrated by people within their respective departments.
However, Trump’s alleged second choices get thru and like Bondi, they know what they need to do to get Project 2025 rolling.

Knowing Trumps position on going after the media there could be hesitation on their part at reporting on a leaked document. What was good reporting 30 years ago will now catch you a potential treason case.

Bondi would get through regardless, not just as a "better than Gaetz" pick. Helping Trump's 2020 attempts at overturning the election aren't going to be a deal breaker for Republicans. If the Dems had 50 or more Senators, maybe not, but with a Republican controlled Senate easy.GRR Spartan wrote:Kingston, there are advantages of flooding the cabinet nomination with people who have so much baggage.

I think Gaetz as the false flag to create the "at least they didn't fuck a 17 year old" concept, is for the other crazy nominations far more than Bondi.

No need for him to go back to Congress, because he will be starting his 2026 Florida Governor campaign soon enough. That's been his plan for years.NigelUno wrote:GRR Spartan wrote:My cynic voice has been telling me that Gaetz was a false flag nominee all along.

Being kicked out of Congress would hurt that campaign. So he agrees to be Trump's false flag to rule everyone up. It gives him an excuse to quit the house just before the report is released (even though no one else quits when they get nominated). He was banking on the House traditional of usually not releasing ethics reports if someone leaves the House. And if he just quit without the spotlight of the AG nom, I bet it would have stayed quiet.
But now he can just lay low for a year, have that whole report leave people's mind, and then announce his candidacy for Governor. Then run a Trump-like campaign, claiming it's all a hoax, all just people out to get him, ball blah blah, and the majority of Floridians will forget/ignore that it was his own party in charge of the House when this investigation was done.
Governor Gaetz incoming.

But also the more that's made public, the easier it is to track it back to the leaker. So the leaker may have only given bits of the report out or asked the media to not release too much right away.kingstonlake wrote:Knowing Trumps position on going after the media there could be hesitation on their part at reporting on a leaked document. But now the media chasing it is kind of pointless (in the short term). There isn't going to be a criminal investigation, so until he starts his gubernatorial, it is kind of a waste of time. Though Trump would LOVE to have them keep chasing it and spending less time talking about his Reality TV Cabinet picks.

sex with a underage girl aside, out of all the trumpian dipshits we've been exposed to over the last 8 years, I think Gaetz is probably the most transparently worst one out of them all. People like MTG and that one from Colorado are terrible and annoying, as are the governors and AG of other states like Texas and florida. But Gaetz above all of them has shown he is the sleeziest, has zero shame about it, and even looked like a prototypical lying sleezey dirtball piece of shit willing to do and say anything. Even MTG at least has a relatively narrow niche, a narrow philosophy and caters to a select few. This guy, He's a nepo baby through and through and an absolutely terrible one at that. He is so bad and keeps trying to climb higher. He attaches himself to anyone and anything he thinks can help him. How any voters anywhere could repeatedly vote for him, I'll never understand.

I was thinking that Trump is almost purposefully trying to surround himself with sexual abusers so that he isn't so morally inferior compared to those around him. Not that he cares about morality, but he does care how other people view him relative to others.
