You obviously have not had Woodford Reserve...makes Jack Daniels taste like gasoline

Nothing wrong with a good old fashioned gasoline buzz every now and then.

Your problem is you are drinking cheap bourbon. Try better bourbon.

What bourbon are you drinking?
Try it with ice. Bourbon needs to be opened up a little bit with some ice.

I like blended myself much better than boubon. I like Crown and probably Chivas if I could afford it.
I would probably like some single malt scotches but as as volume drinker I am not in the market to be trying out $50 bottles

Well spotted. But I do hate bourbon. Not just because of how it tastes, but also because it gives me the worst hangovers.

Maybe. But if I'm gonna drop some coin on a nice bottle of liquor, I'd rather get a nice bottle of scotch.

Love Buffalo Trace. I think that would be good brand for the OP to try out.

Elijiah Craig 12 year would be a good for OP to try. A really smooth bourbon at a great price point.

I am not counting. Although I did have to face the music of my beer consumption at the Kroger bottle return the other day.

Beam distributes Makers too. Jim Beam is just nasty stuff though. You really have to drink expensive bourbon to enjoy it and then you have your choice of oakey or more sweet. I like both. Give me a double oak Woodford all day long and I'd quit drinking Makers. It's very hard to find though. I have to special order it up here in Lansing.Ass Dan wrote:I hate makers mark. Woodford Reserve should be enough to make you give up Makers.Snake Plissken wrote:Beam distributes Makers too. Jim Beam is just nasty stuff though. Help me out, oakey and smoky mean the same thing right? Like makers is very oaky whereas buffalo trace is sweeter? Just wanna get the terminology right

Maybe a little. Much smoother and doesn't have the bitterness of Makers. You straight or rocks?Snake Plissken wrote:It's very sweet

Serious question:
Does my hatred of bourbon indicate that I'm poor?
Second question:
Do bourbon lovers also hate Jim Beam? Because that shit is awful, and that's the impression I am getting from many of these responses.

Fuck. Now I have to rethink my life.
If I have $50 to spend on a bottle of bourbon (which is meant to change my opinion), what bottle should I buy and where can I get it?

Let me clarify...Jim Beam is something you drink in college when you can't afford anything else. When you get to be my age you can afford good alcohol and I would rather drink nothing than drink bad liquor.

A 5th of Woodford is less than $35. Buy a cigar or a couple packs of smokes to fill out the eveningCameron wrote:

I kind of go the opposite direction. I mostly drink cheap liquor mixed with shit (bottom shelf vodka and OJ, bottom shelf whisky and Coke, etc.). If I'm drinking liquor straight or on the rocks, I go with scotch. Glenfiddich is my favorite of the things I've tried.
With my limited funds, I just have a hard time justifying buying 750ml for $50ish when I can get 1.75L for $15. Maybe in a couple of years I'll feel differently.

I am, but I'm not big on meeting internet folk. Especially people who have seen me embarrass myself in text multiple times. If you give me a few recommendations to try, perhaps I'll show up to a tailgate with a nice bottle to share someday.

See if I'm drinking scotch, which I don't do often, I'm drinking Macallans. Preferably an 18 year old bottle.Cameron wrote:

That's where I've been torn. A bottle of Jack is almost the same price as a bottle of Makers and there's no comparison. If you want to upgrade try Woodford. If you want a really nice bottle try their double oak. Pappy Van Winkle is the stuff you just cannot find unless you're in a bourbon bar (try The Bourbon Room in Vegas). Eagle Rare is very affordable and very tasty. I'm not a fan of Knob Creek but it's very well liked.
There are a few bourbon drinkers on tSwill that can help.

Re: I love Whiskey, but I hate Bourbon
Buffalo Trace is great bourbon for cheap IMHO. Woodford is boring but really nice and very smooth.
OP, $25 -$30 gets you 750ml of either . If that doesn't cure you, then you are a lost cause.

What kind of bourbon would you recommend as a compliment to cocaine?
