It would be an absolute tragedy if you had to wait until late spring or early summer to golf again. Just devastating. Maybe while you wait you could take up croquet or polo.

Golf season is about to start. Which reminds me, now is a good time to get on ebay and look for used clubs that were used 5 times and are being sold at 1/2 off.

Golf season ends in Florida? Too hot in the summer?

That happened to me last year. I also almost quit this Spring. I started last July and by November I had my game moving in a good direction but was burnt out on the game. This Spring after having the winter off I was right back to square one where I was hitting divots further than the ball or hitting a slice right into the woods. I'm glad I stuck with it I enjoy it a lot and think I'll be able to break 100 before too long.

I play better in April than I do in October. By this time of year I think I’m just thinking about stuff too much. Trying to do this or that instead of just hitting the stupid ball. I usually hit my peak right around August or so

I took a lesson this week. My instructor watched my swing, gave me a few things to work on and told me to forget about every book, article or tip I've heard. There are times where I get up to the ball and my head is log jammed with all the tips I've heard 'ball off inside heel, hands forward, neutral grip, shallow swing, hinge the wrists....' and the check list goes on and on.

Re: The Golf Thread
We had a 9am tee time last weekend. It took 4.5 hours. I had 2 beers on the course, afterwards went and had some lunch and 2 more beers. I came home and was just drained. It was probably in the low 90's with high humidity by the time we finished.Watch Out Pylon! wrote:InTenSity wrote:Golf season is about to start. It isn't too bad if the course is moving or you can get a round in under 4 hours, but the good courses get packed and no one is pushed. It becomes miserable waiting 10 minutes on every tee box for the group in front to move on.

I’ve avoided going on the weekends out here, no reason to when you can just go in the morning or afternoon a weekday. I wonder if the weekends out here late season are still crowded.

Sank a 10-12 foot putt for a birdie today. Shot a 92 overall. I never should have added my score up with 2 to go. Got 13 strokes between the last 2. Still hoping its going to cool down into the 70's soon.

When I was younger I use to tell this older guy who was a good golfer my score when I played well. His response was always the same. "How many over on the last three holes"? His point was your only as good as the pressure you can handle. If I shot 38 I'd usually be at least two over on the last three holes. If I shot 41, probably 4 over on the last three. LOL.

I've said forever that playing well is more stressful than playing poorly. The pressure of trying to break 80 almost always gets me. Yet I never worry or care about breaking 90.
I love this game.

One that sticks out is to look at the hole, not the ball when putting. Now i tried it for the first time during a round last Friday (there is now a foot of snow in denver) and that was fucking stupid. Practice first. But the point is there. Research says look at the hole. (Is that what she said?)

That's sound dumb. I don't think I've ever watched a pro look at the hole and not the ball while putting. I think if I tried that, I would whiff.

I thought the same and they even mentioned not a lot of pros look at the hole. Research though can’t imagine it was the biggest sample size but can’t recall exactly.
Also- take one fucking practice swing. That’s it.

Agree completely about the practice swings. Very rarely have I seen a good player take more than one practice swing. Pull the freaking trigger.
Same thing applies on the greens. Standing over putts forever is dumb. When a player does this he is only thinking of different ways to miss.

I bought one of these and it has helped a ton.

Also, I do this drill at the practice greens but I don’t set it up as precisely as him. I just approximate the distance and place the balls on the ground. Also, there’s no way I try to make 100 in a row. I’ve noticed a dramatic improvement in my short game and it has helped me read the greens.

Re: The Golf Thread
I look at the hole when putting. Yesterday I didn't have any that I whiffed on, usually once a round I will maybe hit the ground before the ball. I do this on putts that are up to 15 feet away. It has really helped my putting TBH. My speed is a lot better and I swear I'm connecting on a lot more of the putts. The biggest thing though is just having a gimme for a second putt. If I'm not looking at the hole, a lot of times I would come up short. Anyway, it works for me, and you need to practice on a green for a while to get used to it. Its hard for me to look at the ball when putting now. Although I will do it when I'm further than 15 feet.Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:duffy munn wrote:

Yeah, setting myself up for the gimme has been huge. I two putt most of the time on the green now. Last year when I was starting I had no idea what I was doing with chipping and putting and was adding so many strokes to my game. Within 100 yards of the hole is now my favorite part of the game.

Think I ended up 9 over par - not the toughest course by any means but it’s one I like because it’s never busy and has some cool mountain views.

That's pretty good. I bogey almost every hole with the occasional par and rare birdie every now and then. I think next year is my year to tie it all together and become a respectable golfer.

It’s more enjoyable as you hit it semi forward and better but i never try to take it too seriously. People who do can ruin a round. Settle down, asshole. Wish i could play in MI as I’m home for the holidays - doesn’t seem like there is snow there?

Only got 9 in today. Storm came through at the turn. Birdied a par 5, on in regulation and hit a 15-20 ft putt.
Was slow though. The tanner made a group skip a hole they were playing so slow.
Autocorrect ranger to tanner, but I'm going to leave it as is, since I think it still works.
