The 'up north' golf thread
Flew into traverse and had enough time to get a round in at the chief. Ughh, have to buy more golf balls.

You take the family up there with you?
I would like to meet you up there to play golf and leave my family here. Let me know if I can do this.

My family is here. My dad and I go golfing. We can use a third if you want to come up here. Tomorrow afternoon probably legend or cedar river and Tuesday Sundance.

I was just kidding, man. But seriously wish I could. It wouldn't play very well with the wife.

Mostly cloudy here in Central Lake and supposed to stay dry today. Thinking about heading up to Charlevoix to play Belvedere.

MSU is playing Forest Dunes this weekend for qualifiers.
Played 18 holes with 2 of the juniors.
Tough morning for scoring. Windy, drizzle, inconsistent greens due to the amount of rain the last 48 hours.
One of the kids shot 70, a few at par.

Ask them if they remember the motley crew that got thrown out of the joint a few weeks back.

Went to Sundance today. 2 birdies, 9 and 17. Course was wet, but fun, packed for a Tuesday, took 4.5 hours.

Re: The 'up north' golf thread
I keep looking at these pictures and wonder why we always play a new course every year for our guys trip. With kids my age I pretty much only get up there with the ability to golf once a year (during WhiteBoyHatcherapalooza). Should just play Arcadia every year. I want to play Forest Dunes once and then maybe it's Arcadia every year, if I have my say.
Maybe one year our trip will coincide with yours and we can hook up for a round. If you don't mind playing with a bunch of idiots who generally care more about drinking beer/bourbon and taking in the scenery than scoring well, that is.

Wbh. Northern golf courses are some of the best in the world, imo. I don't give a shit about my score, haven't looked all week, guessing anywhere from 85 to 105.
I get to pay stupidly expensive shitty Florida courses. I just enjoy a good course. And drinking bourbon.

Re: The 'up north' golf thread
I'm probably gonna be down in Tampa within the next 3 weeks or so. My boss is bugging me to get down there, and I have to do a good faith showing. I don't really have much free time, though. I try to get in and out as fast as ****ing possible. As stressful as day to day life is here, it genuinely makes me sad to leave my wife and kids, especially for work.

InTen, I'm going up tomorrow but coming home Sat night. No room at the doggy day care for my hose beast so I had to cobble together some dog sitters. No time for golf, taking the fam to the beach or the dunes or some shit like that. Looks like I'll miss you this year. :(

Re: The 'up north' golf thread
I played the stupid Chief two weeks ago. Beautiful piece of land but the worst design in the world.
I'm ok at golf ( about a 10 handicap). I lost 14 golf balls. 14 !! Now a few of them were my own doing but come on. Miss a green by a foot, lost ball. Miss a fairway by 2 yards, lost ball. You can see the green from the tee on 4 holes. ( not counting par threes)
The par 5 third hole is the dumbest hole on the planet. 470 yards. I hit a good drive in the fairway, around 245. Hit a good four iron in the fairway, around 185. So I've hit the ball 430 yards on a 470 yard hole. In the fairway. I can't see the green for my third shot.
I played for free and would not go back. Hell, you couldn't pay me to play it again.

Muffy that doesn't sound right. I hit my drives about 270 and hit my four irons 185 to 190. I'm older than you. Your drives have got to be longer as your club head speed sounds to be about the same as mine given the equality of the four iron distance. You should have hit four wood in. That's your 210 to 215 club,no?

That kind of course is not fun to play. Hell you can spray the ball at bay hill and still recover and make par.

Go play vineyards in Naples. I think you can hit it backwards and still shoot part.Tanfan! wrote:That kind of course is not fun to play. Hell you can spray the ball at bay hill and still recover and make par.
Got a Sunday tee time for cedar river, we'll play hawks eye later in the week.

Re: The 'up north' golf thread
I'm going to play some golf this weekend.. I'll head Up North in my SUV this afternoon with my carbon-fiber golf clubs in tow.. a cooler full of Michelob Ultra in the back... I think my lovely, non-threatening family will come along and I really hope they want to bring along Jake, our golden lab. It could be the perfect weekend to take our family Christmas card photo.
I'll have to run by Baryames first to get my linen trousers and my favorite Dri-Fit golf shirts.. then we're Up North bound.
