So... on the four stops, Four Roses was kinda lame. Buffalo Trace was very cool, no flash just a lot of cool history. Woodford had the best tour of the four. Very professional. We didn't have time for a tour at Wild Turkey, but the drive in was pretty cool.
Now excuse me while I go get drunk.

I did the BT tour last year during the Derby. Very cool, definitely worth the stop.
You hitting the bourbon strip (or walk or whatever they call it)? Pretty easy to get s-faced doing flights of bourb down there.

I have no idea what the plans are for tomorrow. For sure want to hit Bulleit. Other than that, I don't know.

Bulleit
Officially my go to Bourb (red label, the rye blows).
You've now managed to post a pic in every angle except right side up. Quite the feat

Re: Bourbon and whiskey drinkers
Review of the two distilleries we hit up today. Evan Williams is located right in downtown Louisville. We didn't do the tour and the vibe of the place was more like a retail shop instead of an out in the country distillery like all of the ones we hit yesterday. The chick behind the counter wanted to bone me after I guessed she was from Rockford. I could go further into this story but I'm not Blanch so fuck off.
Stitzel-Weller, AKA Bulleit was really cool. More industrial than the other five places we've seen on the southwest end of Louisville. Our guide was funny and more informative on the science of making bourbon than any of the other tours. He showed us how cooper's make the barrels too which was neat to see.
All in all I am now a much bigger bourbon snob than I was before. The 10 years and single barrel bourbons just taste so much smoother and has more flavor than the standard Woodford Reserve I usually drink.
I picked up a Bulleit 10 year, a 4 barrel Woodford Reserve that I'm drinking right now, another bottle of Blanton's because it's fucking Blanton's, and a bottle of Four Roses single barrel.
I need to visit Jim Beam, Maker's, Heaven Hill, and Town Branch to finish the trail but that'll have to be another trip.

Dr. Pep 10 and Bourb is awesome. So is Canada Dry 10 (fuck Verners).
Yeah yeah yeah... I know the Bourb snobs will piss on mixing anything with bourb. I enjoy it straight or on the rocks as much as the next snob. If I'm whiskey barring, I going straight with a couple cubes... let it melt a bit. But at home, mixing in a splash of the right carbonation/sugar brings out different flavors IMO. Plus it keeps me from getting piss drunk by 9pm.
Also like a well made old fashion.

Is there a Buffalo Trace shortage? I've been to three different liquor stores that would normally have it in the last couple of weeks and they were out.

I know a lot of places down here don't seem to have it, and I haven't seen a fifth in more than 6 months. Do they even make it in a fifth?Nordic wrote:Is there a Buffalo Trace shortage?
