Ah, all I did was find it early enough that it never saw the field/court.
The real credit goes to MSU fans everywhere who voiced their opinion to squash it. I was glad that people were with me wondering why we would change a long-time, popular logo to something that wasn't as good.
By me finding it early, all it did was save MSU from actually using the new logo for a short amount of time. I think the backlash would have still been tremendous when it was officially released, and MSU would have ditched it after a year or so. MSU would have been forced to use it for a little while just because all of the gear would have been made.
Since it was found relatively early, there weren't very many things with the new logo in production (I think there was a polo that had the logo on the arm, a hat, and not much else that actually got produced with the new logo).

Isn't it kind of like soda vs. pop or sneakers vs. tennis shoes?

Some of Trevor's comments in that thread are pretty funny and really represent why people have left the RCMB. The Swill isn't a different MSU Community, it's comprised of disenfranchised (former) RCMB posters. And people ripping The Swill's content are fucking clueless. This place has only been around for about two weeks, it's got 11 pages already and it's OT season. Once football rolls around that's gonna change, quickly -
You know Trevor.
Does he really think that (some) mods don't have personal agendas? Does he not recognize that as a problem? I guess it doesn't really matter at this point.

Fwiw that's their hypocrital mo. Drives me insane just thinking how they saw one thing and do another and not even bat an eye. True psychopaths running 247

I haven't posted on RCMB since Swill's inception. So, wasn't me.

Quash is a legal term, quash an arrest warrant.
Yeah, it comes from Latin so that makes sense. I prefer to use the English-version, squash.

At some point the devs sold to Sony, they promised that things wouldn't change. I forget how many servers there were, probably about twenty. There was one guild, the first uber guild, these guys played the game like it was a job. At the height of its popularitythere was another game being developed called wow, which I'm sure more people might recognize. The eq devs ignored pleas from some of the uber guilds that the game was being wrecked. The guild leader for foh (fires of heaven) started speaking out publicly on their website about eq and what was coming from wow. He actually joined the dev team for wow and started promoting it. He sold his character, I think it hit a record. Irreverent though and sorry for going so long. I guess the point is, not everything recovers if people think they've found a better alternative.

I played EQ also, and remember all of that turmoil. I got to the point that I just quit playing EQ even before WoW came out. Then I got to laugh at EQ and Sony because WoW crushed it so bad, but then after several years WoW started doing the same thing, taking the customers for granted and mocking them, and since then WoW's customers have been plummeting. I don't know if these companies can't help themselves or what. All things decline eventually, but I don't think it is a good business move to hurry up the decline by being raging assholes to your customers.
EQ survived through it all and the last I knew they were on their 20th expansion last year and their subscription numbers have stabilized.
WoW is still declining, from 12 million to 7 million subscriptions and falling, so it is still a lot bigger than EQ ever was, but who knows how far it will drop before the numbers level off.
I went from Sunshine Blower to Demand Exellencer on WoW when the developers tried to publically humiliate that fan with aspergers. All the kid did was ask an honest and factual question about one of the plethora of mistakes in the game.
Well, that is my nerd-off for the day, hope you enjoyed it.

I stayed with EQ and moved to a raiding guild, I quit a while after WoW came out. I hated the game and I hated instances. I loved racing other guilds to targets, even if it did cause tension, but I forced people to interact. WoW was a single player game that happened to be on a centralized server. I remember it was hard for people to put together raids of 30 people, and EQ in its prime would have raids of over 100, then limited to 72 (and made for 72) then finally reduced to about 54 or so. Quitting WoW was easy and I don't miss it at all. I wish I still had the time to play EQ, and I dabbled a little bit with an EQ emulator and some EQ2, but could never recapture that game. I finished around level 70 or 75, with about 1200 or more AA points.
Anyway, sorry for the hijack, was one of my favorite games.
