Sounds like a cunning plot to get more lazy illegals and homosexuals to vote for Godless liberal handouts. Which is all fine by me.

Seems ripe for fraud in the new political landscape, but politics are rigged anyways.

Well, the implication is that, if successful, this could be done in other states. Shocked that you didn't pick up on that.

Studies have indicated that low voter turnout often correlates with systemic political bias. This seems like a worthwhile attempt to increase voter turnout, and thus enhance the quality of our representative democracy.

I'm curious what Democrats are going to do when they achieve their goal of having a majority of the electorate reliant on the government for their day to day expenses.
You'd think the unions over-reaching would have taught them something. If you are a parasite, don't kill your host.

That would run contrary to our country's long history of voter suppression.

What the fuck does any of that do with increasing voter registration and turnout? Nothing.

Registration does nothing to increase voter turnout. It will probably just be used to increase the jury pool

It's great that they want to enhance a concept they believe can actually work (and has been demonstrated over the last 250 years that it doesn't work)... but until you can actually choose not to be a slave rather than just being allowed to choose your master... it's just a perpetuation of the real problem.
People are going to buy into it, though... because, like religion, our political system and "heroes" were always burnt into our young impressionable minds as benevolent and just.... despite it all being anything but.

So your saying more registered voters is a bad thing? And you don't believe even one of these newly registered voters will actually vote? Do you also believe in unicorns?

Right thinking states that do not want Viet fraud won't adopt. I felt that was inherent in my response.

Literally every other "get out the vote" initiative was designed to get illegals to the polls, get the dead to vote, and prevent pollsters from checking ID's to make sure the people who are voting are allowed to do so. If this is different, kudos. I doubt it.
Just like the "amnesty" that Obama is proposing for millions of illegals, er, "undocumented" people...he's trying to import destitute people who will vote Democrat....and eventually, the benefits they were promised won't be available because no one pays taxes.
Anyway, I have an out, so I'll watch the carnage from afar. Have fun guys.

You sure it's not you who believes in unicorns?
You can add a billion more voters... they can all vote, 100% voter turnout...
But none of that matters when the candidates all of these newly registered voters that have gained such a privilege are voting for are glorified hired actors.

A practical scheme, says Oscar Wilde, is either one already in existence, or a scheme that could be carried out under the existing conditions; but it is exactly the existing conditions that one objects to, and any scheme that could accept these conditions is wrong and foolish. The true criterion of the practical, therefore, is not whether the latter can keep intact the wrong or foolish; rather is it whether the scheme has vitality enough to leave the stagnant waters of the old, and build, as well as sustain, new life. In the light of this conception, Anarchism is indeed practical. More than any other idea, it is helping to do away with the wrong and foolish; more than any other idea, it is building and sustaining new life.

So what? The point is that more people end up voting. That is the desired outcome.

So what? Really?
The desired outcome is arbitrary participation? The concept behind that participation isn't of any concern... just as long as people are getting in line to "participate", it's all good?
Crazy...

And more voter fraud. Which you seem to have no problem with. I'd be fine with this if mandatory picture ID was coupled with it.

Increased registration and turnout is wonderful. IF our goal is to have the choice of political leaders made by the most uninformed, unengaged citizens. Sounds like a hell of a plan. Do you use the same logic for all decisions in your life? Find the people that know the least about a subject and draft them into making the decision?

Nice try, but a huge distortion of what I said. Silly way to "win" an argument.
If they're engaged enough and care enough to make even a minimal effort to vote then more power to them and I'm happy they're voting.
That's much different than doing all the work for them and asking them to vote for people and policies that they've never heard of.

Re: Oregon Is First State to Adopt Automatic Voter Registration...
as a good god-fearin', America lovin' republican, I have a very simple solution.
Let's allow everyone to vote.. every single American over the age of 18. however, I propose an inverse correlation as it relates to strength of vote versus skin color. The lighter your skin, the more your vote counts. The darker your skin, the less your vote counts.
it's what jesus would want.
USA! USA! USA!

weren't you an advocate for the government killing its own citizens last week in the one thread about the firing squad?LooseGoose wrote:

so.. correct me if I'm wrong (doubtful that I'm wrong but I feel a correction coming on).. you believe that some citizens should vote and some shouldn't.. and you believe that the government should be sanctioned to kill it's own citizens?
have you consider relocating to China? or Iran?

There is very little voter fraud so I am not sure what kind of point you are trying to make. Contrary to the narrative certain groups have crafted, studies conducted by legitimate researchers continually demonstrate there is very little voter fraud.

Congressional approval below 20%....but we return 90% of incumbents to office. I am not sure why you have so much faith in those people that are currently engaged in politics.

in theory, of course. As long as people are perpetuating things like voter ID laws, etc., and as long as the millionaires and corporations are deciding which candidates we get to vote for.. they're not exactly "free and open".xsanguine wrote:

There's no way to keep millionaires and corporations from deciding which candidates get to get voted on. It's just the way it is... when you create a vehicle only one person can drive it and that one person (or entity in this case) is going to be the one whose acquired the most resources because they have the most resources to give.
