Question related to the Lions possibly trading Suh
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24538868/report-the-lions-have-looked-into-trading-dt-ndamukong-suh
Here is the question, his salary this year is $12.55 million, but counts $22.4 million against the cap. So if they trade him, wouldn't they clear the $12.55 against the cap and he'd only count just under $9 million since this is the last year of his contract?
Further, you don't have to tie up $20-25 million per year to resign him. Between he, Calvin and Stafford, that would put you at $60-70 million / year for 3 players.
Seems like a no brainer if you can get a team to bite with enough value (read high draft picks) coming back.

You won't get "high draft picks" for Suh. You'll be lucky to get a 1st or even 2nd round pick. That being said, I wanted them to trade him LAST year.

Re: Question related to the Lions possibly trading Suh
Even if you trade him you take the cap hit for his year. But it frees up money down the road.
I'd love to see him traded as well. Low first rounder or high second and I would do it in a heart beat.

But only his non-salary cap hit right?

I think it's the 20 + million either way.

I wish they had never drafted him.

I think he goes to the Raiders. He fits there and they're desperate for DL help.

What are you going to get by trading him? He is pretty much universally considered by other players and coaches the best defensive player in the league. He is a force. Half his big penalties have been BS. The others are stupid, but you can live with it given the havoc he creates all game long.
Really mind-blowing how ignorant people are of the affect he has on every single play the other team's O runs.

This thread is full of fail. He is one of, if not the best defensive lineman in the league.

It is all about(in their minds) clearing up a huge chunk of salary cap space.

Suh leaving decision to his Agent
He isn't deciding where to play next year. Is this normal? I don't follow free agency too much, but it seems weird to me that he is passing it all off to his agent.

Dumb question, but who would trade for him when they can just sign him in a couple of months?

This is an old thread, it would be impossible to trade him at this point. I think.LoneWolfSparty wrote:Dumb question, but who would trade for him when they can just sign him in a couple of months?

Re: Question related to the Lions possibly trading Suh
After one year, Dolphins want to restructure Ndamukong Suh's deal
Suh was the prize of free agency last year, and the biggest name to hit free agency in many years. But once he landed with the Dolphins he was closer to Albert Haynesworth than Reggie White. Suh had six sacks, down from 8.5 the year before in Detroit, and the flailing Dolphins actually fell from 12th in yards allowed in 2014 to 25th last year and they didn't sniff the playoffs. Suh, the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history, didn't make the Pro Bowl. Suh wasn't a total disaster — Pro Football Focus graded him fourth-best among interior defensive linemen — but the Dolphins were much worse on defense with Suh and their 6-10 record was their worst since 2011. They were two wins better in 2014, before adding Suh.
The contract needed to be redone. The cap hit for Suh this year is $28.6 million (whaaaaa???) and a restructure can free up $18 million for the Dolphins, who don't have much cap room. And that's fine for the men who run the team now, who will either succeed or fail and pass off this contract to the next group of suckers who are hired to manage the front office. But a restructure doesn't simply eliminate the problem. It just chases it down the road a bit. These bills still come due, on the salary cap.
