I watched Fox News the other morning after getting back from my run. Here were the first 3 stories:
1. Hillary and how her email account has ruined the modern world
2. Trump and how he leads the GOP field
3. a brown man from Mexico killed a white woman
seriously.

I agree this should be moved to the swill bin, or to wherever political threads are moved.
I'll say this, though: It's summer, and it's 15+ months away from the general election. Most voters aren't paying attention. Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders are highly, highly unlikely to be the nominees of their respective parties. Both will likely need to mount independent runs.

Sanders is popular with a lot of people that will not end up voting.
Trump is big in the polls, but polls are not the voting booth. It is easy to say you support Trump when talking to a pollster, but I bet people will have second thoughts when they get in the voting booth come primary season.

Why can't we have it all on one board? Never got why people get all worked up about a few political threads here and there. Aren't we all level headed enough here to handle this?

Spot on with Sanders' supporters. They'll disappear at election time. Trump has solid support from TP conservatives, which could sustain him longer because they have shown themselves to show up at the polls. The GOP machine will not tolerate Trump as its nominee. Probably won't matter, though, because Trump's worst enemies are his ego and his mouth. He'll probably say something that leads to his undoing.

Sanders already said he won't run independently if he doesn't get the nomination. He knows better than to split votes and put some moronic republican in office, especially when there's an upcoming supreme court appointment for the next President.

Trump's Bravado is carrying him with the TP. He has yet to offer anything substantive. TP followers are pretty dogmatic. Right now Trump's personality plays to their dogma, but sooner or later he will need to provide specific policy ideas. Is "I will tell them to do it and they will do it" enough to get people to actually vote for him? The TP is smarter than that, right?

Big banks and financiers are crapping bricks with Clinton and Jeb Bush stumbling. The Koch brothers are watching their boy Scott Walker fall behind Trump in Iowa after helping Walker set up Iowa for a year.
I've thought Clinton would screw up before the nomination but didn't see Sanders coming on. Jeb Bush doesn't look strong at all.
My tin foil hat tells me the big money GOP donors will flip to John Kasich because he's not Trump and he's governor of a key Electoral College state.
At the end of the conventions it's possible to see Joe Biden vs John Kasich as Clinton and Tromp flame out.

I honestly do not know. I would think that at some point, maybe soon, someone high up in one of the local TP chapters will ask for specifics, and Trump will probably continue to evade the question. There's no real upside to offering specifics early on. Eventually, he'll have to present some policy, if he makes it that far. I'm not convinced he'll go deep enough into the campaign to offer specific details regarding a Trump Administration.

Re: "Latest poll numbers show tough road ahead for Hillary Clinton. We'll talk to Karl Rove and get his thoughts next."
I'm not so sure that the voters want "specifics" and "policies". I think the talking heads on TV want those things, but the general public is not smart enough to make heads or tails out the detailed policies, 27 step proposals, etc. Most people lose interest after hearing the first 3 of those 27 steps, and tune into the Kardashians. In general elections, people vote on the like factor. If they like one candidate more than the other, that's all the reason they need. Specifics are optional.
Right now, Trump is winning in the "like" column because he talks in plain English, and because he's entertaining. He's the anti-politician. Heck, he's even turned being rich (and boasting about it) into a positive!! Look as how the public responded to Romney's wealth, and how they're responding to Trump's.
I think the game has changed.

Nobody cares about policies because they don't matter. Rs have their philosophy; Ds have theirs. Neither is a big secret. And once someone is elected, all those policies are distant memories. Simply comes down to who the undecideds like most. Trump seems to be winning that right now because he's the most entertaining.

Two things. First, you're reading a bit too much into my comment about specifics. Several of the candidates have offered policy positions, and some of them have laid out policy positions on their websites. Trump evades every question that asks for substance. It is not about a "27 step proposal," but at least giving voters an idea of who you are. Second, we are talking about primaries. Primaries attract more high information voters than general elections. Primary voters are base voters and tend to very ideological (which is why the nominees trend moderate during the general election...they have to attract swing voters). I am not sure how long Trump can keep the gimmick going without telling voters how he plans to make America great again.

Trump doesn't actually have a chance at winning the general election and I doubt the GOP will allow him to win their primary either. Independents won't go near a guy like trump. He will leave his mark on this election before he's done though by forcing other candidates to have some very uncomfortable conversations about the current state of politics.

What did past Presidents tell us about how they're going to "make America great"? And did they follow up on that?
Seems to me that if you have Congress on your side, you can pretty much do anything, even if it is (or is not) what you promised pre-election. And if you don't have Congress on your side, then good luck with executive orders.
So I don't worry about policies and promises. I vote on party platform, vote for the one like best, and hope for the best.

I actually would be good with a choice between Biden and Kasich. Biden has the respect of a lot of people on both sides of the aisle and Kasich, while more conservative, doesn't seem to be an over the top. I think both would be pragmatic and govern from the middle.
If it comes down to Trump or Clinton, I may either not vote at all, which I have always done since 1980, or vote for the Communist Party candidate as a way of saying fuck you to both parties.

Vlad, why is Trump offering specifics? Why did he update his website to add a section called "Positions" (it was not there last week) when all of that stuff is pointless?

First on CNN: Biden meets with Warren in Washington
Voters Think More Highly of Biden Than Clinton in Key States
Dems need to jump on the Biden bandwagon and dump Hillary.
Biden is increasingly weighing whether to challenge Hillary Clinton and other Democratic candidates for the party's presidential nomination. A small team of advisers has spent weeks quietly putting together a campaign strategy and fundraising plan in case Biden decides to run. He had at least one meeting with them this week in Wilmington, one person familiar with the session told CNN.
Voters Think More Highly of Biden Than Clinton in Key States
The Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday shows voters in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania view Biden as more “honest and trustworthy” than Clinton by at least 20 percentage points in all three states. Biden’s favorability ratings beat Clinton’s by seven to nine percentage points.
