It's absolutely sick that Duane was 23 and Greg was 22 when this was recorded.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I was raised on a fiddle man's pay cause a fiddle man's pay was all they gave.
There ain't nothing wrong with an honest man's wage it's just that honest man's wage tends to turn an honest man astray.
Not to be depressing, but the sound of steel guitar.... mmmmm.... my parents must have used a lot of Grand Ol Opry to put me to sleep as a baby (or rum, one of the two)....
Adams appears to be withdrawing... time frame matches up, so that's what I'm going with for extra effect.

Bob, maybe we've talked about this before but I don't care I smoke too much weed to remember if it was you or someone in the real world but....
Do you prefer Adams alt-country style or his Self titled album style? I'm not much for country but Adams' songwriting has me hooked in the vein regardless. I'd love to hear some more self-titled style stuff from him... that alt-rock sound makes me happy. This type of stuff more depressing... both great emotions to explore depending on your mood, but... tf, man?

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I'm a big classic country fan.. grew up listening to all the good stuff - Hank Sr, Ernest Tubb, Bill Monroe, Porter Wagoner, Wanda Jackson, Jim Reeves, Lefty Frizzell.. Merle, of course - loved The Highwaymen record when I was a kid. Kris is a god.xsanguine wrote:Bob, maybe we've talked about this before but I don't care I smoke too much weed to remember if it was you or someone in the real world but....

I've often thought that the sound of your heart breaking is the sound a steel guitar makes..
I love Ryan's more country-ish stuff because that's more of my background. I'll go on record as saying that one of the best bands of the last quarter century is Whiskeytown - and his Heartbreaker record was similar to Strangers Alamanac and Faithless Street - I was less of a fan of Pneumonia, as it had some kind of weird songs on it. However, it's still better than 99% of any other record ever released.

Butch Walker rockin' out on his latest record "Stay Gold" - strong E Street vibe with a Spector-inspired "wall of sound" influence.

Bob, you see that Highwaymen concert on PBS last night?
Don't know if that is your thing but that is about the ultimate in music for me and I otherwise don't even like country.
Willie is coming to Soaring Eagle in a couple weeks. I think I need to go see at least one of these legends before they die.

Re: What are you listening to right now?
I don't think I saw it last night, but I have seen it. The Highwaymen remind me of being a kid. My dad was big into the classic outlaw country stuff. Waylon, Kris, John and Willie individually are all legends - the idea of them being on stage together is mind-boggling.Herbie Green wrote:Bob, you see that Highwaymen concert on PBS last night?

Kristofferson's bio is nothing short of amazing. How many people can say they played college football, was a Rhodes Scholar, an Army Ranger and captain in the US Army, a 1970's movie star.. and one of the best American songwriters of all time?

Re: What are you listening to right now?
and if you're a fan of the old skool country stuff - not the garbage on the radio, etc - there is a lot of good, real country music being made. Maybe the biggest insurgence of real country music since the 1970's.Herbie Green wrote:Bob, you see that Highwaymen concert on PBS last night?

Re: What are you listening to right now?
When I was a kid my dad had a motorboat and he was always torturing me by blasting 8 tracks of these guys. Now 30+ years later I am doing the same thing to my kids. He even started gettimg way into Springsteen after Born in the USA and I even like some of Bruce these days.
I have tried finding some other country but have about given up. Your alt-country sounds great in theory but I can't get into any of it

I got back from running this morning and cranked up Born in the USA on vinyl.. maybe one of the most underrated overrated records out there (by that, I mean people know a few of the hits.. which are perfectly fine tunes, but when you hear "No Surrender" and "Downbound Train", they absolutely blow your socks off).
yeah, I'm a fan of what some call the alt-country sound.. there are a lot of various names for the genre: neotraditional country, progressive country, cowpunk.. y'allt-country, etc - and sometimes they walk a fine line between being rather country-ish and then you flip the record over and it's more of a good garage rock sound.
