93 Movie Remakes and Reboots Currently in the Works

A small sampling of some ....
Ben-Hur
Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) is directing the new take on Ben-Hur, whose cast includes Jack Huston, Toby Kebbell, Pedro Pascal, Morgan Freeman, and Nazanin Boniadi. The film is already in post-production, and will be released in cinemas in march 2016.
The Birds
Yep, the Alfred Hitchcock classic. Mind you, following the shot-for-shot remake of Psycho, little should come as a shock. The new take on The Birds will be overseen by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes company, and Bay himself is one of the listed producers. Furthermore, the film is set to be directed by Diederik Van Rooijen, who will be making his English language feature debut with the production.
Das Boot
Director Wolfgang Petersen's exemplary submarine thriller, in either its film or TV guise, is pretty much unmissable cinema. That hasn't made it resistant to the fickle finger of remake fate, however.
German firm Bavaria Studios has picked up the rights to Das Boot, and it's planning a reboot. Whether that'll be in the form of a television miniseries or another feature film remains to be seen....
Highlander
Rebooting a film with a tagline 'there can be only one' positively invites the world to chortle when a fresh take on the material is announced.
Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is the director of this one (Justin Lin and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo had previously been attached). Ryan Reynolds, originally mooted as the new Connor MacLeod, is no longer on board, though.
One man who is? That'd be Dave Bautista, who's set to play the role taken by Clancy Brown - The Kurgan - in the original film. Production is expected to start before the end of 2015, with a 2016 release possible.
The Naked Gun
More a reboot in the style of the recent Vacation, the new take on The Naked Gun will see Ed Helms playing a relative of Leslie Nielsen's peerless Lt. Frank Drebin. Thomas Lennon and R. Ben Garant (Reno 911, Night At The Museum) are penning the screenplay. No word yet on when the film is going into production. Not soon seems to be the hope of many.

What about Super Hero films? Most of the story lines and characters were developed way back in the golden era of comic books. Just need a screen writer to adapt the story to a screenplay and a few special effects wizards.

Re: 93 Movie Remakes and Reboots Currently in the Works
How about fuck the millions of people that pay money for reboots and sequels? The film industry is a business and they react to what makes money. There are still plenty of non-reboots/non-sequels being made, and plenty of artsy/indie films. Just because there are 93 remakes "in the works", doesn't mean that there aren't thousands of other films that are in the works. The semi-easy money made off reboots and sequels help to pay for many others that might not otherwise get made.Floyd Robertson wrote:Fuck the film industry.

Is Disney making live action movies of every single animated movie they've ever made?

They should make, It's a small World, an R-rated horror flick. In it, Chucky converts all the dolls to satanism, and the water runs red in the ride.Dr. Strangelove wrote:Yes, yes they are and oh by the way they are hellbent to make movies out of all their amusement park rides.Giant Moose wrote:Is Disney making live action movies of every single animated movie they've ever made?

You may have missed your calling, that would be a great pitch in today's Hollywood!

The whole time they are singing 'It's a small world after all, its a small world after all, its a small world after all, its a small small world.' With the cheezy fake smiles and soulless unblinking eyes staring right at you.steveschneider wrote:InTenSity wrote:

Excellent points about the film industry catering to the tastes of their audience and the easy money subsidizing many of the other films that get green lit. I'll eat my serving of cold crow on those.
Still, I guess that I don't see Hollywood taking as many risks as they did 20-30 years ago. There are 10s of thousands of novels that are published each year that provide rich material for film adaptation. Hollywood used to thrive on building franchises from the works of guys like Tom Clancy or Robert Ludlum. It doesn't seem like that happens as much anymore but there are a dozen or more authors with great contemporary characters that Hollywood could tap into.
I happened to watch "Dumb and Dumber Too" over the weekend because it was on HBO. I don't know how much money that grossed at the box office, but it wasn't worthy of being made, IMHO. I laughed exactly once.

I would watch the highlander remake. I lived the idea of the first one, but it kind of sucked.

How about video game movies, can't have enough of this. Storylines already been written and characters already developed. Let's go, Dead Space & Metroid you're up first. Fuck creativity, let's just regurgitate some old shit or some shit that worked in a different medium. Grand Theft Auto coming to theaters this fall.

A halo movie seems so obvious.
Pretty surprised the blob is being made for a third time. Doubt I'll see any of these remakes tbh

My favorite movie ever is Singing in the Rain.
Then they could try to do Blazing Saddles again. Could they get away with it?

Yeah. They've made a couple shitty ones. Forward Unto Dawn wasn't all the way bad. A big budget motion picture might actually be pretty good though. It has a really good story, especially once the flood come into play.

Definitely. We're in the golden age of television... movies are in their twilight.
Although I'm excited for this new Tarantino film he's going to release in 70mm for one day only.

I've never done this before... never really gone past the 70's in terms of film besides the obvious (Wizard of Oz and westerns).... been watching a lot of movies from the 30's and 40's.
Errol Flynn was the shit. Dude acted his ass off... it's too bad heroin took over his life and he became a shell.

Now Hollywood is remaking Dirty Rotten Scoundrels with Rebel Wilson. This is just beyond stupid.

Re: 93 Movie Remakes and Reboots Currently in the Works
Knew there was a movie remake thread here somewhere...forgot Strangelove started it.
Always thought the movie Overboard (1987 Kurt Russell & Goldie Hawn) was amusing.
Just caught the last 2/3rds of Overboard (2018 Anna Faris & Eugenio Derbez) with the male/female roles reversed. Also, amusing.

Did the movies Doc listed actually get made? I don’t recall seeing trailers for Ben Hur, The Birds, or Das Boot.
