Loose-leaf thoughts on the regular season:

1. I predicted 10-2 before the season. Fine, I was off by a game, so sue me ya a-holes!!

2. It was pretty clear by about the 7th game that this team knows how to get up OR down, depending on the level of competition. Fortunately, there are no cupcakes ahead any more. That should bode well.

3. The bronze helmets - YES PLEASE!

4. Cook is the greatest QB in my 35 years following MSU. McAllister would be second and Cousins third. Although BM wasn't a great passer, he could turn any given play into 6. He just had the misfortune to play for a coach who believed in 3s more than 6s.

5. The DL holds the key to how the post-season unfolds. Not Cook, not the OL, but the DL. They all have to play well of course, but if the DL dominates like it did against OSU, we win.

6. So Harbz is 0-2 against his two biggest rivals. While conventional thinkers will say "give him time...he needs to upgrade the talent", I don't think it's nearly that simple. These losses take a toll, and for a coach who seems to have the weight of the entire fan base on his shoulders, seems psychologically fragile to begin with, and will be dogged by rumors of other jobs for himself and his assistants...I think he's got a very difficult road ahead. He's gotta go to EL and Columbus next season. If that 0-2 becomes 0-4, that'll be the beginning of the end, if not the actual end.

7. PSU should start looking for its next HC. Nebraska too. Never too early to fire the coach! Razz

Actually, that might not be a bad bet. I think their chances are better than Ohio State's who I think has zero chance. And if you believe the talking heads tonight Stanford has at least as good a shot at the playoffs as UNC

That three guys keep defending the fact that there was a chance we wouldn't get in at 13-0, but here we are at 11-1 with a play in game, is funny. I know there is a chance that the sun doesn't come up. I know there is a chance that Michigan drops a punt, or that Auburn returns a field goal, or that Mine that bird win s the derby. I just think there are people so stubborn they can't pull themselves to say, "hey, we would be in at 13-0 if we are going to be in 12-1".

BTW, Iowa is a bigger hurdle than so many of us are letting on.
