Best album: Quadrophenia over Exile on Main Street
Best live album: Live at Leeds over Get Yer Ya-Yas Out
Townshend over Jagger/Richards in song writing
Daltrey over Jagger in vocals
Entwistle over Wyman on bass
Moon over Watts on drums
Townshend tie with Richards/Woods on guitar. Pete played more of a rhythm style than lead but obviously has lead chops.

I knew the doctor was going to chime in on this.
To me it's the stones all the way. The stones generated more hits, wrote better ballads, and had the better lead guitarist with Mick Taylor.
The stones could do the blues, gospel, country, disco and straight 4/4 Rock n roll Better than anyone in the world.

Look if you want a time keeper and a rhythm drummer you want Charlie Watts. You want Lead Drums and someone of the edge of disaster and brilliance you want Moon.

Re: The Who > The Rolling Stones
Best Watts story: The final straw was Jagger’s unscheduled wake-up call to Watts during a band meeting in Amsterdam in October 1984. Richards and Jagger had gone out boozing, returning to Richard’s room at five in the morning. Watts was fast asleep. Nevertheless, Jagger dialed his room, bawling "Is that my drummer? Why don't you get your arse down here?" Watts reportedly got up, shaved, got dressed in a custom-made Savile Row suit, put on a crisply knotted tie and freshly shined shoes, came downstairs, and—in Richards' words—"dished him out a great fucking right hook." Jagger was knocked into a plate of smoked salmon, and Richards had to grab his leg to prevent him from sliding along the table, out the open window and into a canal 20 stories below. "Don't ever call me ‘your drummer’ again," Watts told Jagger. "You're my fucking singer."

Best Moon story? Too many to pick.
Though I'm partial to Joe Walsh, "The worst thing that ever happened to me is that Keith Moon decided he liked me".

Tommy is pure brilliance.
I don't agree with the original point though.

A highlight of my experience as a student was being able to walk down along the river over to Spartan stadium to see the stones. They sounded fantastic and that stadium was rocking. I remember honky tonk women and rocks off crystal clear. I remember the encore when Keith came out between his amps launching into the riff for start me up.

omg.....I find it hard to believe that anyone would even state this publicly and come to find out I'm on a message board littered with people that think this is true. I need to take 5 minutes and reassess my life choices.

In my years on sports message boards, posters aren't very kind to Charlie Watts, Ringo Star or Phil Rudd. I think all three are phenomenal drummers. All three have exceptional sensibilities when arranging their parts for the song, and all three are impeccable with their time. I think what they did is deceptively simple, and I've seen people before tell me they are a 'charlie watts' style drummer and they can never pull it off.
