I got called an arrogant douchebag

For the first time ever, I got called an arrogant douchebag for being an MSU fan. I was standing in line at the grocery store and happen to be wearing one of those Ball So Hard shirts Agis of Sparta made. I had the following exchange with a Walmart Wolverine:

WW: But you don't ball so hard.
Me: Okay.
WW: It's true. We've won 3 of the last 5 in basketball.
Me: That's cute. I was too busy enjoying the Rose Bowl out in California to really care.
WW: Oh yeah? How many championships have you won?
Me: 6.
WW: Yeah, we have 11.
Me: That's nice. How many since the invention of the forward pass?
WW: You're the kind of arrogant douchebag MSU fan that gets his ass kicked in the parking lot.
Me: Okay captain.

I don't know why I called him captain. I just felt like it was condescending and would piss him off more. MSU winning is really getting under their skin. I think some of them might actually kill themselves when we stomp them in October.

I had a very similar experience with a walmarter tonight. I just don't understand what the appeal is in going out of their way to say something. Tonight, I'm at a restaurant with a spartan helmet shirt on. I'm having a conversation with the female I'm seeing (no pics, but see my subsequent post for a peace offering)...literally in the middle of a sentence...when this old fvkker comes up and says "hey, buddy" to me, twice. The first time I didn't know he was talking to me. When he failed to get my attention the first time, he said it again, louder. So I looked, and he proudly announces "Go Blue!" I said "that's nice" and he walked away laughing.

I just don't get it. What is the appeal in interrupting someone's dinner and conversation to boast that you're a loser fan of an inferior team? I never go up to strangers with um gear on and say 'Go Green.' I just don't get it.

Anyway, dude was a massive doucher and all I could do was laugh. Hope it made his year.

Well, in his defense, it does kind of sound arrogant. The "Captain" stuff. But you should have went out into the parking lot and stabbed him. Just sayin.

I've learned that those are the dumbest conversations to engage someone in. There's no winning because everyone chooses the way to define it that best suits them.

I'm willing to guess we've all gotten into a friendly spat or two with UM fans at a sports bar. That happens, especially when the drinks are flowing. But to bait a total stranger in the store or some other random public place into a fight over the team you root for...that's just unbelievably lame.

OP, did this take place in Michigan? I've had a few comments thrown my way before, but it always happens out of state.

Yep, the Meijer in Madison Heights. I thought it was funny, which visibly rattled him that I wasn't upset by his comments. I almost started laughing when he talked about fighting me. He looked about 21 or 22 and had braces. Who in their right mind tries to fight when they have braces? That's just asking to have your mouth fucked up.

There's always something to point to to try and win those arguments. You have the most recent B1G championship, the most recent Rose Bowl trip and victory, and a higher rated turf management program.
