Never met him. My wife did a few times since she was a bartender at Dooley's, but height wasn't in our discussion. I actually thought it was 6'1", but was too lazy to google it. I didn't realize he was that much shorter than he was listed.

He was a saint. At the bar trying to get his teammates home and out of trouble.

I heard he was a clean freak, too. Always carried around white powder he'd get from someone else's home in order to properly dispose of it himself.

I have met him and he's not 5'8. At 6'2 I figured I was around 3 inches taller than him. I'd say he was no shorter than 5'11" but probably weighed 150lbs. Watching him play his basketball IQ was off the charts, his shot was a thing of beauty and he was a friggin workhorse and I kept having to say to myself that kid was 16 years old. Odds are he's not going to be 6'6" but he might grow an inch or two and be around 6'-6'1 and he'll add another 30lbs. Looking at him now and taking in what I've read from others, this kid could be a stud for Izzo.

On the AAU circuit, Foster Loyer and Thomas Kithier give Michigan State a peek at the future

The two had known each other for years. Loyer stars at Clarkston High School. Kithier stars at Macomb Dakota. The two had gone head-to-head before. Both partook in the Nike Top 100 Camp last year.

Soon after committing, Loyer began recruiting Kithier to join All-Ohio Red. The pitch worked. Kithier joined for the simplest reason.

"That's my future point guard," Kithier said.

Because of that, Michigan State is now getting a sneak peek of the future. Over the weekend, Izzo and assistants Dane Fife and Dwayne Stephens checked in on All-Ohio's four games.

They liked what they saw.

Loyer plays with an elite level of pace, rhythm, and flow. Total control. The ball goes where it's supposed to be. In eight games this spring, the 6-foot, 170-pound pound guard is averaging 16.4 points and 3.2 assists per game.

Kithier is an inside-outside forward with a soft touch and a willingness to bang. In front of Izzo on Friday, he came off a screen, dribbled through traffic and finished at the rim with his left hand. At 6-foot-9 and 225 pounds, Kithier is averaging 10.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.

He looked tiny to me on tv and he got his shit packed badly the couple of times he went in the lane against high school competition. Yeah he lit it up from the outside but all that basketball IQ doesn't do much good if you don't have the physical ability as a PG to get in the lane and make plays.

I am not writing him off as I think it is quite possible Izzo found something special here, but my jets are cooled until I see him show against D1 competition.

Loyer will do just fine in college. His passing will exploit poor defending on teammates and his shoot will make them pay if they cheat to protect against the pass.

Biggest issue Izzo has recruiting is having players do a 180 on criteria when it comes to their final decisions. McCoy nearly does a 180 when chosing UNLV and Bowen looks like its Josh Jackson redux.
