Didn't happen? He's not on the team anymore? Did I miss something?
Yeah, probably should have extended that scholly to Connar Tava, John Simmons, or Lloyd Neely that year. Straight up ballers, those three.....

HIs freshman year he played behind Payne and Nix. Last year he was sick for half the season and never really recovered. This summer is huge for Costello.
The kid has two years to prove you wrong and I think he will.

Threads like these are why I prefer Bolly and Blanches dating tips and tGhost's rock climbing alien stories to most of you spouting on player development.

I swaer that fast break strategy may have only netted 10 total points all season. Fail all around
The good news is that this post means Costello will be All B1G at least and possibly All American next season.

He gets burned in the post so much I want to punch the tv, and his offense in the post makes me wish for Derrick Nix back. And no he hasn't improved or gotten stronger, and you can quote me when I say he has hit his ceiling for development. I really hope I'm wrong.
Quoting right now. I am continually amazed about how forgetful the fan-base is with guys like Suton and Naymick as example... who were probably less developed as sophomores. Not to mention, on an Izzo team, you've got a number and a role. You play that. I think the jury is out on Costello, and I'm not ready to toss him aside.

That's just crazy talk. In year two of both of their careers, Suton was a much better player.
Costello: 14.7 mpg, 4.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 0.8 apg, 0.3 spg, 1.3 blk
Suton: 26.9 mpg, 9.3 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 2.4 apg, 0.7 spg, 0.7 blk
Unless you are talking about blocks, Suton blows away Costello. It's not even close.

Yep. Dude is a solid defender and has shown flashes on offense. Mono and foul trouble slowed him down last year and his minutes all went to Dawson and Payne. My biggest worry for him is being a physical player without getting into foul trouble early in games. That seems to be a big problem for him. However, he plays real hard and I don't see how people could dislike the kid. Especially the idiots who put him in the same category as Guana at the start of last season.

Boom.
Suton developed a jump shot. Costello doesn't have one, and doesn't have a post game. He is useless on offense unless he cleans up off a rebound or something.

He will never be a 3 point shooter like Suton but he will be able to develop an elbow jumper. He hit a couple fade aways in the post last year.

Are you really trying to argue that Costello isn't bigger than he was when he got here ? Also, link to coaches telling him to lose weight.

I don't like to dog on Spartans who give their all and represent us well, but Goran was a train wreck until he was a Sr.
Costello's role was support last year. He was not the man. With Valentine and Dawson driving the O, he will still need to share... but he will be the guy being fed down low this year. I'm confident he will preform.
& was he that huge a recruit to be "disappointed" in? He wasn't Karlvan Torbarthuiyui or anything coming out of high school.

Re: Costello: unimpressed
Didn't he have mono in the middle of the season? Did you ever have mono? Although Payne had mono and played through it somehow. Although it does affect people differently, knocked me out for about 2 weeks, then I was ok, but I had a buddy who was down for almost a month and he lost quite a bit of weight. Can we wait until January of next year before we write him off?Potato Cakes wrote:

So with double the minutes Suton had double the production. Color me stunned.

Goran played more minutes a game as a sophomore than he did as a senior. If he was such a trainwreck, do you think Izzo would have given him so many minutes?AvgMSUJoe wrote:

But why didn't Costello get more minutes? We desperately needed another big guy to step up and earn more minutes, but obviously Izzo didn't think that Costello did. He played a total of 25 minutes in 4 games in the tourney. That's pretty alarming.kingstonlake wrote:

Izzo wanted his best players on the floor and shortened the bench. Simple concept.

Agree. Costello didn't play hard every game. He even admits it himself and was part of the reason we had that home loss to Nebraska.Potato Cakes wrote:

I once criticized a player, and I'm sorry.
Actually, not just one. And some coaches too. And I'm really, really sorry.
No really, I am. Sorry. Even ashamed.
