Golf Outing...listen to this %&*
I was in a golf outing last weekend for a hospital in the area. My company paid for our foursome which was $400 a team. It was at this crappy course an hour and a half outside Austin that was only 9 holes so you go through the 9 twice and play different tees. Our team was pretty good and one of the guys on our team is a really good golfer. None of us played really well but we ended up at 8 under which judging by the people we saw at the outing (mostly really old guys) we thought we had a chance. We come in after our round and see that were we beat by a 10 under and stuck around for the rest of the teams to finish. We grabbed a burger and notice that up on the board now is an 18 under. This course wasnt hard but still, 18 ?? I had the longest drive and so we stuck around for the prizes just to see what it was and we wanted to see the team that shot 18 under. They announce the 18 under team name and they walked up to take their picture as the winners of the outing. No joke they were all between 65 and 70 years old. I looked over to one of the younger guys playing and said "Wow, 18 under ?" He then explained to me that this team comes in at 18 under every year even though they dont actually shoot that. The reason they do it is beause every year they donate the prize money back to the hospital.
WTF ?? I am all for donating to the hospital and I did donate my longest drive money but how on earth can you have this outing knowing that these guys just come in and post an 18 under like that ? I have played in a ton of golf outings in my life and I have never witnessed something like this. Anyway...after golf was over we met up with the old guys in the clubhouse and had a Lemon Party.

Yeah, I wouldn't like that either. Let the winning team have the "glory" of donating the $$ back or taking it. Simply fixing the tournament sucks. I'd never play it again.

That sucks. Have never liked scrambles unless there are eggs involved.
Congrats on the lemon party.

That happens every year for the hospital outing for my Mom's work.
We shot a legit -10 and someone shot -20. We were second place by a mile. My buddy and I had the best days of our golf careers. I won longest drive and longest putt. He won closest second shot.
My mom and stepdad are pretty good too. Couldn't believe they got twenty under.
Of course, the team was the CEO, CFO and two chairmen for the hospital board. Shocker.
They gave us free beer and food all day, so I guess that was an upside. I challenged them to a one hole playoff, I really wanted the main prize: big screen TVs for everyone.
Now I know where all that damn money goes. I know those dudes don't pay to get into the outing either. This year we didn't go and I heard they charged $650 for a foursome.

Played in a church sponsored scramble in the spring. We had a decent outing, nothing special. The foursome in front of us was playing somewhat slow, but off the greens quick. We got confused why they'd give themselves 10 foot putts as gimme's, but shrugged it off. They carded a -17. We all just started laughing. Whatever you wanna win that bad, take it, I guess.

Damn shame is what it is. OP could've used the prize money for tipping maids on future hotel stays.

I often wear them golfing. I also think the whole 18 under stuff is bullshit. Fuck that charity event.
