So a seemingly bad-faith accusation at the height of #MeToo hysteria, coupled with a dash of Chuck Schumer incompetence, spelled curtains for Franken. Now I've got to read back through this thread to see if I rushed to judgment. I recall thinking that resignation was the right course.

Re: Al Franken!!!
Well, the picture is the picture and no amount of doubt cast on the kissing story can change the picture. With that said, calling for swift action showed the Democrats were willing to hold one of their own accountable and not trivialize issues of sexual assault and harassment by reducing justice to party affiliation. In retrospect a bad decision, but at the time it seemed like the right move.
Unfortunately, Gillibrand, who is a much better candidate than the polls indicate, has taken the hit for Franken's resignation. I think it is one reason why she has been so quickly dismissed by Democratic voters. They hold her responsible and are not willing to forgive. As we can see, many powerful senators, both men and those in party leadership positions, were right there with her. Yet fingers mostly just point at her.

Re: Al Franken!!!
Giilibrand got sucked in by a GOP hit job on Franken that coincided with buzz about him getting into national politics.
That's why she's not qualified for the big chair. If Roger Stone and Koch Brothers cronies got her to buy that early and easily imagin what Putin, Xi and Kim Jong Un could do.

Sometimes you are not as correct as you think you are.

Gillibrand responds. Sorry a strong woman took a position people didn't like.[tw]1153451573500108800[/tw]

Re: Al Franken!!!
The article does touch on the other allegations. But the meat was the photo and the zenith of these charges. So, the author dug into them. If she says they’re credible, I believe her but she perhaps could site them. I’m sure there will be references to them this week.

The article refers to them, but does not investigate them to the extent of Tweed's allegations. Why does Gillibrand need to spend time citing the other allegations just because the journalist failed to do so? Although she very clearly says one allegation came from a Congressional staffer, which is kind of important. Did the author largely ignore those other allegations because Tweed's allegation were easiest to undermine; did she cherry pick Tweed's allegations?

I am really tired of waiting for Franken to return to the Senate. This is really taking a long time.
