he's a good dude. Has gone MIA, though, from all of us old high school pals. Seriously, like off the grid.

He has a BS in engineering from Duke, a MS in Physics.. last I heard, he lives in a little shack somewhere in rural north Florida (and if you've ever been to rural north Florida, you might as well be in Alabama or Georgia) - assisting state investigators with illegal poaching activities.

Nobody has heard from him in, like, 20 years.

Maybe he's the guy that Carl Hiaasen writes all his books about.

No, no there are not.  EVERYONE has the means to evacuate.  Local governments provide transportation and shelter for anyone that wants it in an evacuation zone.  Poor, elderly, crippled, bed-ridden, it doesn't matter.  When a storm is approaching, the news is constantly giving numbers for people to call if they need assistance evacuating.  Don't have a phone?  The police go through the neighborhoods, sometimes door to door, trying to get people to leave.

If people don't want to, that's their choice.  But everyone can if they want to.

I see your point.  If people have children or spouses they are responsible for, they need to get out, there are very few legitimate excuses.

At least this guy sent his wife and kids away, but his "I'm gonna defend muh propertee" schtick is played.

Just talked to my sis in Cary/Raleigh. Said power went out for a couple hours but is back on. Maybe an inch of rain so far but they're supposed to get more as the storm loops around them.

I will endeavor to pick the sticks up out of the yard. I also had to reset all the clocks after the power flickered on Friday afternoon.

Praise Jesus that the DirecTV didn't go out once over the weekend

Florence is going to loop around out of New England and come back down to brush the NC coast again.
Well, probably not, but 3 models show that happening.
