I always figured he would be done by now or retire after Steven kisses the logo. Not so much anymore. My guess is 5 more years unless he wins a natty before that.
I still think MSU was the odds on favorite to win and Izzo would've announced his retirement before they even played that god-awful song they play at the end.

I absolutely know that MSU would have won it all.
Also, covid was a combined UofM / B1G effort to make sure that didn't happen. They developed the virus at UofM, which is as we all now know, a hospital system with a university attached to it, and released it in China timed to keep the NCAA's from happening. /s
However, that would have just made Izzo hungry for numbers three/four/five and he would still be coaching.

I know Izzo doesn't mean this, but that's almost a dig at Dantonio, never mind that the AD/Board wrote that stupid contract.

True. But also, if Izzo was paid 25 million a year he still wouldn’t be stealing.
Izzo will help the new coach recruit, raise money for NIL etc. does he have a lifetime contract? He should.

What is the NIL do you suppose for having a university named after you?

Not so much as an NIL deal financially, but if you have some compromising pictures of the governor and key state legislators, I think you may have a shot at it.

Boeheim was 78 and Krzyzewski was 75 when they quit coaching.
Rick Pitino is coaching at 71 and 74 yr old Jim Larranaga is still coaching The ‘Canes. Dana Altman is 65.
I wouldn’t bet on Izzo leaving the bench for another 5 years.

Tell you what, Michigan could do a lot worse than asking Beilien back.
I also think the ex um guy at SDSU is pretty old.

Re: Supposedly Izzo’s retirement timetable
Steve Fisher is pushing 80 and retired in ‘17.
Basketball at umaa has always been second chair to football. When they hired Beilein he was getting paid $1.3M/ yr starting in ‘07. When left to take the Cavalier’s job his umaa salary was $3.8M.
In the spring of ‘80, Iowa State’s AD called Don Canham and got permission to speak to Johnny Orr about Bill Frieder to fill Iowa State’s HC vacancy. Into the interview the Iowa State AD volunteered their offer and if would be sufficient to interest Frieder.
Orr would later tell reporters that when he heard how much more Iowa State was offering than umaa was paying he asked the Cyclones AD if they’d hire him. They did and that’s how Frieder got the job up in aa.
9 years later Frieder left aa for Arizona for the same reason.

I don't think that would work with today's NIL/recruiting landscape.

I can see them, offering him a shot too.
I’d forgotten that Dutcher had been in the thick of all the umaa cheating. Otherwise, he’d be a safe hire even if he is 64. I always thought Ben Braun would return to umaa as HC someday, but his career trajectory never really took off at Berkeley. Plus, he’s now 70 and out of coaching.
