What's funny is I texted a Jewish friend of mine back in Brooklyn and told him what happened and he didn't understand why calling a Jewish person Jewish is a problem. I've been asked by Jewish people thousands of times "are you Jewish?" in that particular industry where I worked primarily with Hasids.

The Jews in Brooklyn refer to each other as Jewish but the Michigan whites, who've probably never even met a Jew, raise holy fucking hell over it.

Edit: Actually it's not funny but I wanted to start my paragraph with that.
