Re: Bob Dylan
Shitty guitar player and even though he has a decent voice (Lay Lady Lay) he deliberately doesn't even try to sing well.
That being said probably the most important pop music songwriter post WW2.

What about the guitar playing over 'Don't think Twice it's Arlight?' that song seems very difficult to play.

Saw him once on the love is theft tour. It wasn't a mind blower but I was stoked to see him. Love his live at Albert hall album.

Re: Bob Dylan
Saw him twice. First time I went I wasn't expecting anything and he totally blew me away. So the next time he came to town I went again and he absolutely sucked. And Willie Nelson sucked that night too. In all that was one shitty concert.

Can't really blame the guy for being old and still wanting to rock out. He probably should have stopped doing shows before he started to suck though. He's never had a great voice or anything but he's probably one of the best folk singer/songwriters ever.

Going off this list, in most cases I definitely prefer the original.

The exceptions where I prefer the Cover:
All Along the Watchtower, Quinn The Mighty Eskimo, My Back Pages (Byrds Version), It's All Over Now, Baby Blue (13th Floor Elevators Version), Nothing Was Delivered (The Byrds)

Re: Bob Dylan
I once shared his politics ( though I don't know what his politics are today) and learned to play guitar strumming along with his records. I the days of vinyl- I owned 10 of his records ( including 2 double albums) He was a musician/performer whose talent and unique delivery influenced his peers and a generation of music lovers.
Bottom line is: Its great music, even though some of his more "preachy" leftist rants I can do without.

The answer is blowin' in the wind.
just a bit preachy
This is downright childish:
Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'
Haughty, arrogant and written by a 21 year old guy who hadn't reached the age where he realized that his parents weren't so stupid after all.
I could give more, but here's my last example: Its the last verse of a long winded propaganda piece on a convicted murderer, Hurricane Carter:
Now all the criminals in their coats and their ties
Are free to drink martinis and watch the sun rise
While Rubin sits like Buddha in a ten-foot cell
An innocent man in a living hell
That's the story of the Hurricane
But it won't be over till they clear his name
And give him back the time he's done
Put him in a prison cell but one time he could-a been
The champion of the world.
Carter was found GUILTY twice. The evidence was overwhelming. Â The bullshit celebrity propaganda machine led by people like Dylan overshadowed the FACTS of the case. The Hollywood movie was a complete fabrication.. Carter got out on a technicality and was lucky that because 20+ years had transpired since the crime, Â and his parole date was only a few years away. Here is a nice link to a factual news article . Â http://www.nj.com/opinion/index.ssf/2014/04/spare_us_the_lies_about_the_late_hurricane_carter_mulshine.html
Its just that BS that makes me roll my eyes. But overall, he is very talented and I like his music a lot. He's like Woody Harrelson, He's a political nut but I love his acting. Â

I've seen him three times. The show Turtleneck mentioned (which was awesome), then another time two years or so later (still really good)... and then at the Whitecaps stadium with Willie Nelson. He had fallen waaaaay off when I caught him at that show.

The Rubin Carter case was a mess all around. He did 20 years. The juries were all white. He was convicted twice under dubious circumstances. Who the hell knows what heppened with all the meddling with evidence and witnesses that went on.

Grew up listening to Dylan on road trips with the old man. He's the biggest non-pot smoking fan there is. Completely different genres and styles, but he is a 60s/70s Eminem. One of a kind blues/rock musician.

Re: Bob Dylan
I hated him and his stupid voice all my life, until about 6-8 months ago, when I picked up Blonde on Blonde on a whim at the library. It wouldn't come out of my car's CD player until I just went out and bought it. And Bringing It All Back Home, and Highway 61 Revisited, and Blood on the Tracks, and Planet Waves. I was done. Full-fledged Bob fan. The man is a fucking changeling. One of the greatest poets of all time.
I don't want to live in a world where "Desolation Row" or "Highway 61 Revisited" or "Visions of Johanna" don't exist. Pure genius.

I overpaid for bob dylan tickets at Interlochen a couple years ago. Fucking. Horrible. FUCKING. HORRIBLE.
I wanted to leave after two songs because 1) the band was fucking horrible, and 2) you couldn't understand a single fucking word ole Bob was garbling.....
I didn't leave because I was there with three other people who had paid the same amount to be there, and I had talked them into going. I was sick when, after we were walking out, I admitted that it was the worst concert I'd ever been a part of, and they all, pretty much, started crying..... It was worse than death.... I mean, as far as shitty concerts go.
How is this fuckwad even famous? He is fucking motherfucking turrible. Fuck him, I hope he dies soon, and then we do the whole "three days worth of 'Rob Dylan was a great song guy' thing on TV" and then he can just go away.

Holy shit. I think Jim Brown was the best fucking running back around. Same with Gayle Sayers. I loved watching old film on them it's great. I'd never pay to watch those two old beat down fuckers run the ball now unless I understood I was just going to see a legend and not expect much. To appreciate them I'd watch old film.
