Re: Oh, Florida
I don't know which is more difficult to believe, that this guy, any guy, would complain about "unwanted genital fondling", or that this guy really didn't know that an Asian Massage Parlor would provide that.
He just wanted a shoulder rub, but deputies say masseuse from North Miami had more in mind
Oh, and the masseuse's last name is....seriously...Dong.

Yeah, and unwanted touching is not the way to get someone to come again.

The sargassum shit is annoying as fuck. Seems to have really picked up the last few years. A few years ago we did a little staycation weekend in Pompano, and just used the pool the whole time. The beach was pretty much unusable because of that.

I call Faux News BS. The distance from Miami to the African coast is only ~4,200 miles. This supposed 5k mile wide "blob" would literally span the entire Atlantic ocean and then some.

Fair enough. But a "blob" to me is a single contiguous mass. This looks like 3 separate "blobs" to me. And with hurricane season fast approaching, I think Mr. Blob is gonna get shredded within 6 months.

I'm missing something here, I thought this was due to fertilizer run-off, but hard to believe that by where it is located.

The fertilizer run-off thing is real, thanks to big sugar in FL. But that stuff starts inland and moves out to sea via rivers & water management canals. At least the giant blobs of seaweed are organic.

Big sugar has been downplaying their role in red tide for years.
This is kind of interesting. Maybe Africa is sending us their seaweed.

From the NYT article (which I can't open again), it noted run off from the Congo, Amazon and Mississippi rivers as the main drivers.

The sargassum is a normal thing to be in that region (Sargasso Sea). Hypothetically increased phosphate and nutrient concentration from the fertilizer runoff has increased the magnitude.

Based on the pic of the accused, I’m kind of surprised they think he did it.

Yup. No need for any interaction. I’d be leaving it on the porch and running back to my car.

Everything old is new again...
Leprosy cases in central Florida account for nearly 20% of national cases. What to know
Rising evidence is pointing to the possibility that leprosy has become endemic in the southeastern U.S. with Florida being named among the top reported states.
In a recently published research letter regarding emerging infectious diseases, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that Florida is witnessing an increase in leprosy cases lacking traditional risk factors and recommending that travel to Florida be considered when conducting leprosy contact tracing in any state.
Leprosy, which is scientifically known as Hansen's disease, is a chronic infectious disease that primarily affects the skin and peripheral nervous system.
