Nielsen Has Reached Out to Me For Some Research Data

Received a letter from them the other day and I gotta admit it fired me up. Even better when I opened it up there was one dollar in there and they promise to send me another five if I fill out the survey. Should take me like three minutes five total if I included going out the front door and putting the return envelope in the mailbox. Hoping this opens up the doors to get one of those tv boxes for my tv so they can measure everything I watch.

That used to be illegal and probably still is. I don’t recommend even joking about it if you’re attaching your real name to it anywhere IRL. If Nielsen found out, you’d likely have your book cancelled despite it being just a joke.

I did the same thing about 5 years ago. They sent a dollar for everyone in the household another 10 I think after the surveys were filled out.

We had a box for like a year... I intentionally refused to allow the TV on Judge Judy cause I hate that bitch.

This was pre Alexa/Siri... and I thought it was spying on us so I got rid of it.

It's a pretty small survey. I'm guessing it's for selection of random sample. Kind of funny I'm so used to all the junk mail tricks when I saw the dollar fall out of the envelope I was like woah they are sending out fake money now? Picked it up and was like nope that's real.

Even using their people meters, it's old methodology that everyone knows has major problems.

But yeah, the diaries are especially outdated. People write what they think they should be watching, not what they are watching. I've seen diaries that people have filled out where they just write 1 station and then a line all the way down the page, as if they just left that ine station on all day/week/month and never turned it off, even at night.

Can't wait to see Syracuse and MSU ratings go through the roof in NY.

I'm surprised there isn't mail fraud around these envelopes. It has 'nielsen' in the top corner. Also, I chuck so much of the junk mail I wonder how many dollars have been put in the trash at this point?

Some are garbage. Some are good. Right now I'm hooked on the Dr Oakley lady and for some reason I can turn of the "secrets of the zoo" shows. That might be animal planet though.
