Tiger Woods WD's Again.
Should he just retire?
GC Tiger Tracker @GCTigerTracker 3m
Uh oh. Back is hurt.
@GCTigerTracker 3m
He stops walking up 9 fairway. Going VERY gingerly. Trying to stretch it out
@GCTigerTracker 3m
He's done. Cart is here.
@GCTigerTracker 3m
Really in pain, almost can't walk. Favoring right side and leg.
@GCTigerTracker 2m
FWIW, he looked to be in much more pain than when he WD'd at Honda in March.

Next week go to the range and hit 2500 balls. Then walk 90 holes. Check back with us after that.

Exactly. Not to mention the heat and very hilly courses. Guys think golf is non athletic cause they play twice a year and ride a cart.

This guy is done. I really think he was on roids the way his body is breaking down. Maybe just an ultra-violent swing and a well-muscled body (clean or otherwise) don't mix. Either way, he's done. His body is breaking down.

Ya. I'm leaning this way as well. Always thought of roids as a detriment to a golfer but the roids allowed him to stay healthy all of those years. I'm the same age as Eldrick and if my body is any indication then his must be ten fold. Joints always ache now, bumps and bruises show up in random spots, muscles don't loosen up so easily, recovery is twice as long, etc.

I'm about a year and a half younger than Eldrick, but yeah, same here. I have issues with both knees and a partially torn right biceps that really doesn't make sense to get fixed.

Now wait a minute. Golf is a performance based sport. No one is giving the Nationwide guys guaranteed contracts to play on the big boys tour. Gotta earn those paychecks by playing well and making cuts. Phil has probably spent more money than his winnings this year. Not all guys are lucky enough to have major sponsors like him where it doesnt matter.

Big John has barely grossed $100k in the past two seasons combined on tour playing 25 events. Not even sure he has his tour card anymore and just gets by on sponsor's exemptions. NIce pleats on those pants though.

These guys don't even have to carry their own bag.
I'm sure they work hard and they have a ton of talent, golf is a really tricky game. It's not harder than being a quarterback in the nfl, a starting pitcher, a point guard, etc., because there's comparatively no physical exertion. Two swings minimum on every hole aren't even full power. I don't buy it.

You likely could but you use different muscles playing golf. I bet you would be sore as hell if you took my challenge.
I'm not saying these guys are the most conditioned athletes around.
Just that it's not as easy as most people think

That's fair. Doing that week in and week out would be a lot to ask of the body.

Yeah, it's not like they practice or anything.
Take the 5000 ball and 108 hole challenge. You may be young but you will be hurting.

I think golf is non-athletic because I run a couple of triathlons a few times a year and play in a rec soccer league, not because I play golf a handful of times each summer.
I'm sure a weekend PGA tournament is hard as hell, and someone not conditioned or used to playing that much will be sore during/after, but the physical difficulty argument is on par with claiming that guitar playing is athletic because I can't play a 3 hour set without my hand cramping up or my arm being sore for a few days, but guys like David Grohl can.
If you want to think that PGA players are finely tuned athletes in top condition, go for it. I don't see any guys looking like this on the podium at weekend triathlon races though:

Daly is a poor example. He hasn't done shit in forever. There is another golfer out there who has his same build, but if you watch the tournaments today, most of those guys are thin and in shape. Furyk is a stick figure, probaby about 6 foot and can't weigh more than 135 soaking wet.Phil McCrackin wrote:

Apples and oranges. Nobody is saying the PGA players are finely tuned athletes ( although many are ). The point is the weekly grind of the PGA tour is physically and mentally demanding.
Yeah, John Daley or Jason Duffner couldn't compete in a triathlon but that's not the point.
And did you really bring up rec league soccer ? Is it co-ed ?.

Where did I say it was physically difficult? Golf is taxing on the mind, joints, wrists and back. And try making your livelihood on 8-15 foot putts day after day after day.

We can play semantics if you want, but guys generally think golf is "non-athletic" because it generally is.
Professional golf requires about the same level of athleticism that professional darts or billiards requires.

Maybe, but there are plenty of other examples. Angel Cabrera is 44 years old, 265lbs, smokes and brags about "doing absolutely nothing" to try and change that, yet he somehow won 2 majors in the last 10 years among his 50 other tournament wins.

Good point, plus Angel Cabrera is South American, so he probably has some mad skills that make up for his inability to run more than 20 yards in any direction.
