Random Ranting...

Reading reviews & such about Dune Part 2 and the upcoming plan for Dune Part 3 (Dune Messiah). Director and reviewers saying that DM is the ending to Paul's story, though anyone who has read the books knows that Paul is a major character in " Children of Dune", the third book of the series, too.

There are variations of love songs

Some are the bubble gum variety, which are fine. They have value. Some are the young adult ones. Which, again, are fine. We've all been there.

Then there are long songs for adults. People who have seen some things, experienced some things. And figure "what the fuck.. we have some baggage, some scars.. let's play a hand and see how it turns out".

Yeah, the road is dark
And it's a thin, thin line
But I want you to know, I'll walk it for you anytime
Maybe your other boyfriends
Couldn't pass the test
Well, if you're rough and ready for love
Honey, I'm tougher than the rest

Well, it ain't no secret
I've been around a time or two
Well, I don't know, baby
Maybe you've been around too
Well, there's another dance
All you gotta do is say yes
And if you're rough and ready for love
Honey, I'm tougher than the rest

If you're rough enough for love
Baby, I'm tougher than the rest

Had a filling put in at the dentist today. The doc put in an appropriate amount of anesthesia but the nerve cried foul once drilling started. Got some more to deaden everything even more, and now I’m still numb on the right side of my face. Already chewed some of my cheek.
I can’t even whistle. How depressing.

I don’t know how. Lady has a pretty good video. My daughter said she can hear it in royal oak. It’s 20 minutes and it’s still exploding. WTF?

You could even hear it from my house, and I'm 25 minutes north. It sounded like thunder.

Ever seen those tv spots for the moon pod? The guy talking is someone named John Fiorentino who claims to be the inventor. Something about the guy runs me the wrong way. He talks like a surfer dude and his claim that he invented something that’s nothing more than a bean bag bugs the crap out of me. I know it’s illogical, but, as McCloud used to say, there ya go.

I leave for Vegas on Sunday for my work's national sales meeting. We actually start early Monday, so I'm coming in a little early. It will be st. Patrick's day.
I'm hoping I get some great entertainment as I walk the strip on Sunday.

Any company having a National Sales Meeting in Las Vegas on the Monday after a Sunday St Patrick Day weekend might be looking to cut staff beginning of 2nd and 3rd quarter. A cynically picked date.

Any below the top 20% should stay clean and sober and not be seen partying hard.

Every year people get fired at our national meeting. It doesn't matter where. Plus, there are several thousand people. There's always idiots.
And my company can always find a reason to fire someone if they want.

Don’t hope for rando entertainment on the Strip, guarantee your entertainment with tickets to a strip:

I came in a day early to vegas for my meeting, because I wanted to see st. Patty's day here.
It was kind of disappointing in that aspect. It was pretty tame.
BUT... I did not stay out late. I assumed it would be crazy all day long. It looked like things were starting to get interesting around 630 pm. By that time, I'd been up so long, and I had already walked around for hours. I was tired. It's also a lot quieter and mild on this side of the strip (at fountainbleau). I imagine it did get crazy eventually.
I went to bed early, and I actually slept too. It was a good day for me.

Company held another town hall meeting late morning...its version of a state of the union address. Our CEO is great at these and was again today. Very knowledgeable and frank speaking about the auto industry, which is most of our business.

HR ordered pizza for the after luncheon...Jets. Have never seen that much pizza, breadsticks, salad in my life Random Ramblings - Page 11 502811600

Decided to start answering the calls I get from random northern Michigan cities. The latest one was from Oscoda. She's trying to sell Medicare Plus. I ask her how the weather is in Oscoda because it's snowing where I'm at. She says light snow. I ask her what the ice cover is on Lake Michigan since it's right next to where you are. She finally admits she's from Texas. I ask how can I trust what she's selling if you're spoofing phone numbers. She hangs up on me.

Know some use mobile phones for everything...I can't do that.  Had laptops suddenly take a shit for various reasons.  PITA when they kick, scrambling to get a new one.  Current laptop was 4 years old, nearing the end of its useful, when I got pre-emptive and bought a new one about a year ago.  Did preliminary to make sure it worked but hadn't touched it until today.

The old one finally crapped out.  Still works and was able to backup, but the LAN went south...no internet to attempt restoring/updating the driver.  Could fart around trying to update the driver on the side.  Not worth the trouble considering the LAN itself might be fried...been slow for weeks.

Even having a replacement readily available is sort of a PITA.  Will likely take a week to find all the settings I want to change.

^^^ Follow up.

Couldn't get to my email.  2-factor authentication doesn't work when both accounts are through the same provider and you can't access passwords on the LAN-dead old laptop.  Spent over 2 hours on the phone to get that straightened out, along with complications due to the email app on my phone...a standard app that comes with all Samsungs.  It got ugly.  Had to take pics of my drivers license and a selfie (really ugly).

Re-assessed...will likely take two weeks to find all the stuff I need to change to get back to pre-crash operations.  Old LT had W10.  New has W11.  Microsoft is always fucking with stuff they don't need to.  Now takes an extra click to delete or rename a file.  Idiots.

I’d venture to guess that there’s a threshold moment during said blowjob that would determine the outcome of the drug test.

Further follow up.  Windows 11 Home on the personal laptop.  Got most of the important new kinks figured out.  Will get to the less bothersome later.

IT upgraded my work laptop to 11 Pro late last week.  Same issues as the Home version but frustratingly worse the way it interacts with Office.  For example...Outlook is a pain with extra steps required to do what you could do easily with W10.  Had to search for where the bcc option was.  Can someone please tell me where the option is to save multiple attachments to the same folder without downloading each file individually?  It's like the people writing the software have no idea how it gets used in the workplace.  The goal IMO should be primarily to save time.  W10 introduced extra button clicks and W11 has expanded on that.

Rant over!  There is one truly useful feature I've found with W11.  You can paste a pic into an Excel cell as a thumbnail and easily expand it to full size, and then put it back to thumbnail.

Wouldn't the Outlook issues be Outlook issues, not Win 11 issues? That doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would be exclusive to Win 11.

Sorta feel like that.

Watched computer advances since the ole days at the MSU CPS building when input was by keypunch card.  Very impressive at the time.  All the computer hardware/software power in that place is dwarfed now by any smartphone.

Introduction of W8 pissed many off.  MS eventually back-tracked after user revolt.

Know the coders are tasked with making the software "better".  Some new features are actually useful.  But, MS throws in some features that are seemingly change for the sake of change.  Some frustrating, making users hunt around for what they were use to...things that previously worked fine.

Kind of like the software I use at work. It's like they intentionally try to bury the most useful parts of it when they update it.

Even though there (thankfully) hasnt been anything in years, I still worry about something bad happening on either 4/19 or 4/20. I’m hoping we sail on by with no incidents at all.

It used to be that April 20th was when I thought about Columbine. But now it seems like there is always the next one. When can we have the last one?
