True, but he also just kicked off a huge story and stole all their attention.

If so, who goes to Oregon? Not a historical power but certainly has been in recent history. That would be a destination job for a lot of guys.
I'm thankful we got our boring white guy when we did.
Also, Pete Carroll is gone in Seattle. Adds another potential layer to the Harbaugh saga.

Some are dropping Oregon's Dan Lanning as 'Bama's new coach.. Phil Knight is in a position to make a $ubstantial case for Lanning to stay in Eugene.

Nick isn’t wrong. Coaching sounds rough enough, but all these changes have made the job seem genuinely miserable.

Half that list seems unlikely. Would Norvell, Lanning, Deboer or Sark leave what they have going to a pressure cooker. Wash may have been a flash in the pan with Penux, so maybe that doesn’t apply to Deboer. The rest seem to have pretty good gigs going.
Dabo seems the most realistic. Relationship at Clemson seemed to be wearing thin.

The talent that anyone will have and be able to get would make the job attractive to anyone. If Deboer thinks his success was dependent on Penix, or Norvell that his was due to Travis, they can look at Alabama as a much easier place to strike gold again that UW/FSU.Nordic wrote:Heat Miser wrote:Sanders is pretty funny too. It seems like the shine has worn off Dabo post Watson/Lawrence and he's been exposed as not as strong of a coach as though (at least that's how ACC people down here in Miami/FSU country see it, which could be bias). But I wonder if fans and donors are Bama would be excited by him at this point.

Re: Saban retiring
given the last couple of years that Clemson has experienced, I agree - I think the shine has worn off of Dabo a bit. Doesn't mean he can't get it back, but the ACC is a bit stronger than it was when he was steamrolling teams.MiamiSpartan wrote:The talent that anyone will have and be able to get would make the job attractive to anyone. I think Bama being Bama (meaning the fanbase, sports radio down there, Finebaum, etc) - I could see a Dabo hire being met with overwhelming ambivalence.
ya gotta remember, about 6 weeks ago, the yahoos here - at Michigan State - were like "if we don't get a combination of Urban Meyer, Vince Lombardi, Amos Alonzo Stagg, Knute Rockne, Steve Spurrier and Kirby Smart, I'm burning my MSU gear on Facebook Live"... now extrapolate that degree of unhinged, irrational thought to the Bama faithful.

If that show were ever made, it would make me simultaneously relieved and pissed as hell that we don't have Tugger anymore. Especially if Saban was going full Gordon Ramsey on the coach of the program he's visiting. If the rumors I've heard about Tugger are true (showing up for practice just long enough to shoot an instagram reel, then jetting), that would have made for fantastic television.

Seems to me that college football staffs have been seriously revamped in the last few years with an office staff or various managers for all these functions, which should take some of the load off of the HC?

I feel like people are just taking big names and throwing them at the wall. I saw a tweet yesterday that said this is the job you take after whoever follows Saban and gets fired for "not winning 12 games a year." The expectations and pressure that come with following Saban will be entirely unrealistic.
