Calvin Johnson might be an asshole

After reading this article, I'm beginning to think Calvin might be close to Adrian Peterson status.

Here's the part that makes me wonder: Johnson also said he is a strong believer in discipline for children, without offering specifics on the nature of discipline he advocates. "I'm going to discipline my kids," he said. "And can't nobody tell me how to discipline my kids."

But then later: "Some things are private matters and there's some things that shouldn't be done," Johnson said. "You shouldn't put your hands on a woman. Simple as that."

So Calvin, is it ok to "put your hands" on a child? I'd sure like to know his views on that.

We had protesters outside our building a few years ago, I have no idea what for. A mass email went out to our office from HR that if any of us talked to the protesters or media it could be grounds for termination. I know its different, but a lot of corporations have something like that in their handbooks. NFL players are a union though, so they probably have more protections than the normal corporate drone.

Sometimes the best thing people can do is just shut the hell up and wait for things to blow over. Calvin Johonsons opinion on the matter does not need to be a part of public record, but now it is. So, what I was saying (as indicated by the "love, nfl pr" part) is that the public relations propel for the nfl wish players would just shut up, because what they think does not matter and only makes the narrative worse.

So a response you made in a thread about Calvin saying he will discipline his kids wasn't relevant to what he said but still applies to what he said? Sorry Travis, I am obviously just too stupid for the conversation.

I will say this: society is 50/50 split on spanking. Society is 90% in agreement that what Peterson did was over the line. Calvin obviously is in the 50 percent of us that believe spanking is an acceptable form of discipline. If asked about it he, like any of us, will answer. You are completely within your rights to think that is dumb. And I have the right to support his right to say that.

If the Lions release him over this interview, great! I know a team in Texas that could use him.

Some of these are heinous crimes and the people who committed them can and should be prosecuted and punished to the full extent of the law. That's why we have laws.

I don't give a fuck about the Lions, or any NFL Team other than the one I happen to have money on. But I am not paying my Sunday Ticket dollars to make sure that Calvin Johnson says and does the right thing off the field. I could give a fuck to be honest. Catch Touchdowns when you're on the field. Hopefully I don't have to hear about your stupid ass again until next Sunday. I just don't care. Have more important things to worry about.

And as for the child abuse/beating thing? Meh. I feel the same way. So sick of Deadspin and every other social media outlet telling me how I should feel and what it teaches. Fuck off. I can think for myself.

But to categorically say that punishing your child with a swat or whatever is bullying and teaches them to bully and is wrong? Bullshit. I think each kid reacts differently. For some it probably works, for some it probably doesn't. It didn't for me. I know it won't for my kid because of how he's wired. But it might be for some.

Let the legal system determine where that line is, not ****ing Deadspin or Radisson or whoever.

There are tens of thousands of domestic abuse/child abuse victims in this country - probably more. And we're all going to start freaking out because a couple of NFL players do it? Yawn. Why weren't we freaking out before?

I just would like to say I understood this post.

I think this has more to do with people hating Goodell. The guy who is tough on punishment, but working to change the way football is played has finally had some cracks in the armor. It turns out that he didn't punish everyone the same, and put a lot more emphasis on things that people found to be trivial over things people found to be more serious. A 1 year suspension for smoking weed or doing molly, a 2 week suspension for knocking your wife the fuck out.

Should the NFL even be involved with any of these cases to begin with? I think that is more of the moral outrage. You covered that though.

What the US does best is keep its heinous side in the closet and behind closed doors. There is a lot of bad (lot of good too) that happens in this country, and sometimes a video is a lot more powerful than reading a blog on ESPN that someone knocked their wife the fuck out during the offseason, or seeing pictures of a 4 year old with badly bruised legs (I haven't seen the pictures). 

Not sure where I'm going with this. It isn't going to go away.

What the players are saying they may or may not do, is pointless though.

So can you explain why hitting a woman is wrong, but hitting a kid is ok? Because I can't justify that. I'm firmly in the hitting is wrong category, no matter who it is.
