Millions of screenings later, another shooting at a theater = pattern.

I still don't understand why people believe they can outlaw crazy. That somehow
another gun law or 5 will suddenly make only sane people own and use guns.

Not one of the things you mentioned as solutions would have made 1 iota of a difference in that case. The only thing that would have made a difference on the control side would have been a complete ban and confiscation.

I'm not opposed to changes that would make a difference, I'm opposed to changes that are simply "we did something" feel good measures that in reality accomplish nothing.

Wouldn't have made a difference if it were gun free zone or every person at the movie was carrying. The guy had a death wish and was crazy. I could make a reasonable argument that more would have died if everyone was carrying and shots rang out in a dark or low lit theater. Yeah, don't see chaos, confusion, and random gun fire ensuing in that scenario at all.....

Bobby Jindal, who traveled to the scene within hours of the shooting, telling reporters that a teacher who was in the theater jumped in front of a second teacher, saving her life. The second teacher then managed to pull a fire alarm to alert other moviegoers, he said.

Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the country. How's that working out?

There is a whole lot of space between waiting lperiods, recording sales at the state level that can be accessed by any state and registering sales at gun shows compared to confiscation.

If you look at murder rates in Chicago over time, they are actually down. According to FBI crime statistics, between 1985 and 2000, Chicago averaged 28.8 homicides per 100,000 people. Now, since I like to be an informed citizen, I recently geo-coded all of Chicago's homicides for 2015 through July 5th. Here is what I found. Through July 5th, Chicago had 21 neighborhoods with at least 5 homicides. In total, those neighborhoods accounted for 162 of Chicago's 227 homicides. To put it another way, 27% of Chicago's neighborhoods (counting 77 neighborhoods) accounted for 71% of its homicides through July 5th. If you are going to discuss mental illness, Chicago is a bad example. What is happening in Chicago is rooted in socio-economics rather than mental illness (although anytime a person takes a life from some arbitrary reason, I suppose they are mentally ill).
