Gotta be honest, Cook not being named captain has me confused

I understand the company line - "not a big deal...he's still on the leadership council", etc., etc.  But still, for a 5th year senior QB who has accomplished probably more than any other QB in school history, who has carried himself well on and off the field, is well-spoken, etc., what gives??  Why would players not vote him in as one of the three?

And he himself has admitted that "it stinks", so we can't pretend that it totally doesn't matter.

Certainly would've helped his NFL resume, if nothing else.

Because the other three are also well spoken great leaders on and off the field?

He played, he failed to move the ball in A2 and get the crucial conversion that the Spartans needed to win that game.

When Dantonio benched Cook against ND and put in Maxwell he went 3 and out. He could have won the job on that drive.

My guess is it is two different motivation techniques.

Maxwell needed confidence, so you show him you believe in him even if you don't.

For Cook I think it's about putting a chip on his shoulder, keep him motivated to prove people wrong.
