No this doesn't write off the season, but you just can't objectively say MSU is better than say #18 Utah right now. That was the question before this game started. Unfortunately it looks like we are getting our answer.

When I was there last year I was really surprised at how small it was - I knew it was small but it feels really tiny too. They've renovated parts of the stadium and they were super cool and nice. Overall, a fun place to see a game. I was also surprised by how many Walmart Ducks there were there. Tons of those fuckers.

You can just follow my posts and draw your own conclusions. It is not like I am saying anything earth shattering here. I was looking for some evidence that MSU was closer to #2 than #22 and I didn't get it. People here are going to take offense to that for obvious reasons.

I could take you through some more advanced modeling but I think that is beyond the scope of the board. Laymen will cry foul about the "transitive property" but it is in fact fundamental to any ranking or predictive system.

Oregon's blowout loss at home to Utah and MSU's loss to Oregon last year shows how good Mariota was as a college QB.  Oregon's offense is a system offense with the QB making decisions on every snap.  This year they don't have the QB.

The Duck defense looked awful but in the previous 2 seasons they weren't always lights out but the offense was so efficient the opponents would panic on offense trying to match them.  

Oregon's offense wasn't clicking and Utah and their senior QB did to the Ducks what The Ducks with Mariota as QB did to panicking opponents for the last 2 seasons.

It's all about brand and perception.

A couple of years ago MSU lost to ND in a squeaker and started a winning streak that ended with a Rose Bowl win. But MSU wasn't a media favorite. That team beat a ranked umaa team and still didn't get into the top 25 until week 9 or 10.

All Dantonio can do is win games. Fuck the style points. Briles has Baylor pouring it on again to get attention. Last year we saw his team panic when the opponent didn't wilt when trailing by double digits.

The schedule looks kind given the current injuries and the WR malaise the Spartans are experiencing. The goal was to be 6-0 going to aa and leave as a 7-0 team. Nothing has changed.
