Certainly a feather in his cap.
Bridges 5x FoW
Ward 4x
Next closest guy 2x
As Mario Impemba tweeted, same guys voted for AL Cy Young last year.

WTF? Bullshit!...Ward needs to go beast mode in the BIG Tourney for 20-10 (which he would have given the minutes) and lead us to a title and then give the middle finger to Delaney while excepting the player of the tourney.

Re: 2016/17 Hoops Thread
EAST LANSING, Mich. - Eight different MSU players were recognized on Monday night, March 6, during the annual Michigan State Men’s Basketball Awards Banquet at the Breslin Center honoring the 2016-17 campaign. Freshman Miles Bridges was voted Most Valuable Player by both his teammates and the media.
As a true freshman, Bridges averaged 16.6 points per game in the regular season. The Flint, Mich., native scored more than 20 points on eight occasions, including a MSU single-game freshman record and season-high 33 points against Purdue (1/24/17). Bridges has nabbed seven double-doubles and was named Freshman of the Week five times. He was selected as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year by both the coaches and media and is the second Spartan to win the award since it was first presented in 1986, joining Gary Harris (2013). Heading into the Big Ten Tournament, Bridges leads the team in scoring (16.6 ppg) and rebounds (8.3 rpg), while he is third on the team in assists (2.0 apg).
Bridges also received the Jumping Johnny Green Chairman of the Boards Award having led the team in the regular season with 8.3 boards per game, slating him fifth in the Big Ten statistics. Even battling through an injury, resulting in seven missed games, Bridges leads the Spartans with 199 total rebounds this season, which is the fourth-most by an MSU freshman in school history.
For the third consecutive year, junior and two-time captain Lourawls “Tum Tum” Nairn Jr. earned the Stephen G. Scofes Inspirational Player Award. Nairn has played and been a factor in all 31 games this season, starting 26. He is second on the team with 112 assists and 3.61 helpers per game. He leads the team in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.12), ranking him second in the Big Ten and 13th among the national leaders.
Eron Harris and Matt McQuaid both received the John E. Benington Best Defensive Player Award, and it was the second consecutive season Harris has been honored with the award. Harris also received the Antonio Smith Glue and Guts Award. Despite suffering a career-ending injury, Harris’ leadership roles never dwindled.
Nick Ward and Alvin Ellis III were co-recipients of the Most Improved Player Award. Ward is a four-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week selection and was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Feb. 27. Ward ranks second in the Big Ten in field goal percentage (.587) and his 13.6 points per game ranks 15th in the Big Ten and are the second most by a freshman, trailing only teammate Miles Bridges. Ward is currently tied for fourth in the Big Ten in blocks (1.6 bpg) and his 50 blocked shots are the third most in the Big Ten and are the second most by a freshman in MSU history.
Entering his senior season, Ellis had never averaged more than 3.0 points or 1.5 rebounds in a season. This year, he doubled his previous career highs with 6.7 points per game and hauled in an average of 3.0 rebounds each contest. He has elevated his performance even more in Big Ten play, averaging 8.6 points and 3.6 rebounds, ranking him third on the team in scoring and fourth in rebounding. Ellis has 207 points on the season, just two points shy of his first three years combined (209).
Matt Van Dyk received both the Scholar Athlete Award and the Unsung Player Award. Van Dyk is an Agribusiness Management major who earned Academic All-Big Ten honors last season. Van Dyk was a big contributor for the Spartans this season, as he started in four games while Miles Bridges was out with an ankle injury and has played double-digit minutes in 11 games this season. Conner George rounded out the honorees as the recipient of the Tim Bograkos Walk-On Award.

Re: 2016/17 Hoops Thread
Bracket Watch: Who’s safe and who still has work to do this week?
The No. 10 seeds (VCU, Michigan State and Xavier) and highest No 11 (Providence) could use one more win to feel better about themselves. (The fourth No. 10 seed, Wichita State, is an automatic.)
The other No. 11 seeds (Wake Forest, Middle Tennessee, USC and Vanderbilt) and one at-large No. 12 seed (Syracuse) might be in with one more but would feel better with two. (Illinois State, my second-to-last at-large, is already done.)
Kansas State, my first team out, is likely in with two more wins because they’d come against highly ranked Baylor and, barring an upset, West Virginia. Iowa and Illinois may be in the same boat if enough teams above them exit early.

Re: 2016/17 Hoops Thread
in my opinion today's game is going to go a long way towards showing us how much the team has grown up. Playing tough on the road in the last 2 conference games was a huge step. Earlier in the year the team would not have competed in the 2nd half of those games.
Maturity will be obvious today either way. Is the team going to take Minny lightly because they've already beaten them twice and won yesterday by nearly 30 points? Or are they gonna show up and compete at a high level?
I think it will be the latter because this is Izzo time but man, it's still a freshman-led team. We shall see.

It might be better to lose. I think we get ran off the court on Saturday if we win today. Lose, stay at the 10, avoid a 1.

Big 12 tournament: Monte Morris, Iowa State steal the show in Kansas City
Big 12 tournament: Monte Morris, Iowa State steal the show in Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Missouri -- You screwed up, Tom Izzo, but don’t take my word for it.
“He screwed up,” Tonya Morris screamed from the front row behind Iowa State’s bench Saturday night.
That was the mother of Monte Morris, the best true point guard in the country. Again, don’t take my word for it.
“There’s not a better true point guard in the country,” Iowa State coach Steve Prohm said. “There’s just not.”
More than that, Morris neared the end of an inspiring four-year run, shedding a label as a Michigan State reject.
The story has been repeated over and over again, but Izzo didn’t recruit Morris hard enough and has since owned up to missing out.
“If you talk to those guys at Michigan State, they know they let one slip,” Morris said.
Meanwhile, Mama Morris continued to let it rip from the front row.
“I was told third party Izzo thought he was too small to play in the Big Ten. I respected that,” Tonya said. “Then he did come back and through that same third party said he screwed up.”
Whatever the case, Morris’ game is a reasonable facsimile of Magic Johnson’s. In the tournament opener he was one assist short of a triple-double. Morris grew up playing with Miles Bridges, Denzel Valentine, Gary Harris, Brandon Dawson and Keith Appling.
Even in the Cardinal and Gold, Morris just looks like a typical Michigan State guard. Unless there is a statistical Armageddon, he will be become the NCAA’s career assist-to-turnover ratio leader at about 4.8-1.
“Sometimes you miss out on guys,” Morris said. “I definitely wanted to be a Spartan, though.”

Not as bad as Izzo screwed up by ignoring OTPT along with every other division one two or three head coach. I've heard OTPT is better than Tum Tum.
