Couch: Deyonta Davis is the centerpiece of 2016-17 Spartans

Davis is the most important variable remaining in putting together next year’s roster. His decision to either leave MSU for the NBA or return for his sophomore season is more significant than whether the nation’s top recruit, Josh Jackson, decides to join Izzo’s heralded incoming class.

If Davis returns, he is the centerpiece of next year’s team. Maybe the center, too.

Davis isn’t a better player or prospect than Jackson, but he’s a big man. He’s a rim-protector. A walking offensive rebound. By next year, he’ll be stronger and a consistent post scorer.

Scoring on Davis for 2 pts was better than our guards giving up a billion 3s. Why recruit talent to EL if you're going to instead choose to lose with guys that wouldn't play for MTSU?

Mr. March bashes elite guards like Lucas for being poor leaders when they are here and then has to go the transfer route with guards for several years after.

Then he sits an NBA player. Mr. March constantly makes things harder for himself.

Win or lose with your talent and don't criticize an elite guard when you have one. It's not complicated.

Bash Lucas, chase Allen and Lucious, and then have to rely on transfers from Valpo, Cleveland State, and WVU to fill gaps in the years after. Good thing Valentine was local and had a Spartan dad otherwise it could have been worse.
