I have lived in the Raleigh area since Nov 99. Love it. You can be at the beach in 2 hours and in the mountains in 4 hours. New Jersey is a bit of a haul - around 8 hours cuz traffic sucks north of Richmond.
It gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter and it snows sometimes. Last year it snowed 4 times for a total of like 10 inches. They cancel school on the threat of bad weather and nobody can drive in snow.
Supposed to be high of 62 today and 70s over the weekend.

Is she right about Raleigh having a low cost of living? What else can you tell me about this town? Is there a lot of outdoor shit to do there? Can I go mountain biking nearby? Is it hilly or flat? Nice downtown? Cool restaurants?
I've heard they have great alleys for getting high.

I can vouch for the drive to NJ. I drove from DC to Rutgers for an MSU football game back in the JLS era. I-95 sucks.

Raleigh is a cheap place to live. You can get a helluva house for 300k. There is a ton of outdoor shit to do. Lots of mountain biking and trails. Downtown Raleigh is trying to be cool but it's a smallish area. Restaurant scene is small too but improving slowly. Raleigh is still a sleepy area but I like it.

I had a layover at the airport there once. It was fine. Unremarkable.
It might have been Charlotte now that I think about it. I don't know.
I'm sorry. I can't help you with this at all.

Raleigh has a pool and a pond. The pond will be good for you.

Know a few people who live in the Carolina's and except for a cousin who retired to a home on a golf couse just outside of Charleston those in SC wish they would have been able to be in NC. Nicer climate (generally cooler) and all the universities in NC make it a nicer place to live.
Several Swill posters live, have lived there or have family there. If you have children NC has attractive tuition rates for instate students.
A lot more BBQ and less Mexican eateries.
plug you money in the links.
Got to think a lawyer baller like you will land a $500K gig in days plus the $400K job for your wife's new job.

Regardless, I doubt gHost is going to enjoy the humidity after his time in the desert.

Your take on Cary is interesting. Sis and her family have lived there since '98 and love it. Times I've been down there it seemed anything but crowded and overbearing...maybe because have lived in Metro Detroit all my life. Apex is right next to Cary.Dr. Strangelove wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:downtown Asheville has gotten a little cliche - west Asheville is the place to be.

I have to admit, I love Arizona, the desert, the American West…. it would be very very very hard to leave. She tells me that North Carolina is an awesome state with beaches, mountains, nice weather, low cost of living, and closer to my home (New Jersey).
But I don't know….
