Godfather epic question
When Michael Corleone saves his father at the hospital with the help of Anzo the baker, afterward Anzo couldn't light a cigarette on the steps because he was shaking. Michael takes the lighter and calmly lights it. He reflects for a moment at how easy he did it, calm as hell. Was he thinking there "this is the life for me". ?? "I'm calm and under control@?? Why is that scene in there? Why is he reflecting while looking at the lighter?

As you ponder stupid shit like this late in the evening, has it ever occurred to you your wife might be fingering herself lying in bed?

I don't really recall that scene in detail but the implication is obvious. You're overthinking it. Yes, Mike was cool as can be. Yes, lighting the cigarette was meant to show that. Yes, he thought about how he didn't sweat the situation at all and how smoothly he acted under pressure. That's it.

Threw her back out moving a book shelf out of the office. She ain't doing shit and is in pretty good pain. Knew something was up when she let my youngest who has had her license for 8 days take the truck to an overnight. I'm like "where's the truck ?" She's like "I don't give a fuck". So yeah, if she's doing that, it's impressive.

Thanks. I think I'm just adding that he's probably made the decision right there that he's all in

Yeah, I had read that a while back. It didn't answer my question. Just wanted opinions of those who had watched it. But thanks for looking it up. I use those type sites for other movies. Just wanted a swill opiniin because there really isn't an answer here.

That scene sealed the deal for Michael. At that moment he realized he was the one who could act under pressure and was the son who had the constitution to take over the family business.

Reviving some questions for you godfather aficionados.
I’m still puzzled in Godfather II, whether Pitrangelo was set up by Michael, or set up by Roth. I know in the end, he thought he was set up by Michael., but I don’t think he was
Godfather III, Connie says to Michael, “poor fredo drowned.” Come on. She had to know that Michael had him killed.
In one of the books said that Anthony, his son watched from his bedroom window as Fredo was murdered
Thoughts?
Sorry guys, I’m really really really bored.

Not enough memory of GII to help you out, and I wasn’t a fan of GIII so I only saw it once and have since purged it from my gray matter.
Dwags, have you watched the series The Offer? It’s excellent and as someone who has thought about the original movie, you’ll see how some things came to be in the film. I found it fascinating since it was based on Al Ruddy’s account of how his movie was made.

BTW, the actor who plays Albert Ruddy was just at Crunchy’s promoting something called Long Drink. Apparently he owns it or a piece of it. Teller is also in Top Gun Maverick as Goose’s son.
The Offer is good enough to stand on its own in case anyone else watches it with you and hasn’t seen the Godfather. Note: It is NOT a documentary about the making of the movie. It’s a movie that tells the story.

Re: Godfather epic question
It was Roth. I think Michael called Roth out on it, subtlely. The assassin says, "Michael Corleone says hello", because he wasn't actually trying to kill him. But Pentangeli wouldn't know that, and think Michael tried to kill him. So he started talking to the Feds. It was part of Roth's plan to turn the Corleone Family people still in NY against Michael.DWags wrote:Reviving some questions for you godfather aficionados.

Connie knew. I don't think she was being literal about him drowning. Michael had just told her that he confessed all his sins to the cardinal. And her response is to tell him that Fredo drowning was God's will, an accident, but it's finished. Then she says he loves him and will always help him. I think she always knew, and Michael always figured she knew, but they never discussed it. This was her saying that she forgives him, it's done, and she's still on his side like she always has been (well, as she always had been since their mother died).

And Miles Teller's wife was Taylor Swift's +1 at the Golden Globes, so it's relevant that dwags bumped this on Super Bowl weekend.tGreenWay wrote:BTW, the actor who plays Albert Ruddy was just at Crunchy’s promoting something called Long Drink. Checkout Masters of the Air on AppleTV. Only 4 episodes so far. New one each Friday. 9 total I think. Heard elsewhere there was going to be 10.DWags wrote:tGreenWay wrote:btw, Dwags, I misspoke above. It’s not a movie, it’s a 10-episode miniseries.

Holy shit Greenway. Bought ten episodes. Episode 1 is fantastic. Ruddy and hogans hero’s walks away. McGraw Hiller and love story. Puzo coming out of nowhere to write godfather. First episode was epic. I might binge them.

I want to watch the series again. Learned so much from it, like I had no idea Ruddy was responsible for Hogan’s Hero’s, which I loved as a boy.
