Re: Mike Sadler has died. RIP.
Mike Sadler was one of those people who seemed to excel academically and athletically. What made him rare was his personality.
He was able to become Academic All American majoring in applied materials engineering (3.94 GPA), one of the nation's best college punters and start a Twitter account that showed his sense of humor.
He was a once in a generation Spartan who has left us too soon.

Such horrible news. He dated the granddaughter of legendary high school football coach Al Fracassa. ( she was an MSU cheerleader ).

I'm sure he would have completed his Stanford law degree with honors. Could have one day become a Supreme court justice with his brilliance and wit..

Not good. Seems he was driving too fast on an unfamiliar wet road.

They said speed was a factor, not that he was speeding. He might have been doing 35 and hydroplaning.DWags wrote:Watch Out Pylon! wrote:Ugh. This really bums me out. Any word on the cause of the accident?

It's possible the corner he came up on was sudden. I don't know, this just sucks.

I've driven on stretches of that same road in the rain in daylight and in good conditions at night. It's got some challenging curves if you are familiar with the road.
We all have driven to fast for roads and conditions when we were in our 20's. My own kid rolled a family car after hitting black ice. He was fortunate that the car rolled though a ditch, landed roof up and he walked away.
2 days later a HS classmate lost control in wet snow hit a tree like Sadler did and died. A friend who's a sheriff deputy said according to the data from her car she hit a tree at about 30 MPH and airbags didn't save her.
Helluva it is all three guys in the car were there for a kicking camp for HS players. Sadler had multiple reasons to skip the camp since he was going to be in Palo Alto in a few weeks but he made time for young kickers.
Saw a blurb saying Lane Kiffin called Sadler the day before LOI day wanting him to flip to USC. Sadler reportedly said he gave MSU his word and he couldn't tell Dantonio and staff he'd changed his mind. The same integrity to keep his word put him in Wisconsin Saturday.

I had a bad relationship with cars up through my 20s, but in my experience a roll over is better than hitting something. Pretty simple physics that you're more likely to survive without a hard impact.
I'm getting glass removed from my head the 1st week of August that dates back to an accident in Oct of 87. Was in the front seat of a car that rolled at least 7 times. I took the front window and the side window out but basically emerged unscathed except for massive abrasions from the glass and road.

Anybody else think that Sadler of all people would have a lot of fun with "Speed was a factor"? God, he'd turn that one into a one-liner or three.

Been some speculation on tob about this....
Eric Lacy @EricLacy 45m45 minutes ago
Police told me no reason to believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash that killed Mike Sadler, only excessive speed and weather

As a native of SE Wisconsite Ive driven that road too many times...I agree with the curves...I will think of our fellow SpartanDog when I do again soon...

Well shit.
I saw the title earlier and couldn't believe it. Never met him, watched from afar and admired his outlook on life, and yet his dedication to making his life the best man he could be.
Followed him on Twitter just because he was so damn quick...
RIP Mr Sadler. God Bless your family in this troubling time.

Tragic. He was one of the greats of the Coach D era. The storm that rolled through north Illinois/southern Wisconsin was vicious last night. Timing is everything in life. RIP Mike

Fuck. I listened to his podcast every week that he did with Travis Jackson this past season and really enjoyed being exposed to that off the field side of him. There aren't many players, let alone punters, that connect so well with fans like he did. He will be fondly remembered and sorely missed. RIP, Mike.

Yeah I'm really sad about it. I don't know why.
The last time I was this sad about the passing of a public figure that I didn't know was when Ernie died. And that was truly just a piece of my childhood dying.
I think this kid's personality, humor and potential just resonated with a lot of us.

Solari: Mike Sadler had rare blend of wit, humility, athletic ability
Perhaps it’s being a relatively new parent, belatedly celebrating my daughter’s second birthday on vacation up north Sunday and feeling more attune with the fragility of life. Or it could be because 2016 has turned into a heart-wrenching year already, with people young and old who have touched a significant number of others dying at a dizzying rate.
Either way, Mike and Molly’s deaths have stung me exceptionally hard. Both were the type of people who never seemed to have an enemy, who always managed to embrace those around them. They made the world brighter with their positive presence, let alone their intellect and compassion.
