Spencer Brown hadn't even started his junior year of high school when he made his first college decision.

The 2019 three-star offensive tackle from Walled Lake Western committed to Michigan State last July. Now nearly 10 months removed from giving his verbal pledge to the Spartans, the recruiting pressure isn't the same as it was.

"It's been kind of slow because a lot of schools know I'm kind of locked in, but a lot of schools still reached out to me," Brown said. "It's not like schools are not still trying to talk to me but it's not how it used to be, how I used to get like three offers a day."

Brown's commitment to Michigan State resulted in some programs backing off but also others ramping up their efforts. Among his more than two dozen offers, Michigan, Florida and UCLA all came after he committed and LSU offered Tuesday but Brown maintained he's completely committed to the Spartans.

"At the end of the day, I think it's kind of just a blessing to have those options," Brown said. "But, I'm MSU."

Offers from Michigan, Florida, LSU, and UCLA. If he took any one of those he'd be bumped up to a four-star ranking but because he's sticking with MSU he'll enter signing day as a three-star. And people wonder why I think recruiting services are stupid.

I think it's just such a natural thing to to say, they don't even realize they're saying it.  The inbred thought process of all sports writers in Detroit, really can't wrap their mond around the fact that MSU has surpassed that program in many ways.  They're still of their fathers thought process.  I really think that we have a coach and staff that really embraces that and yes, it does create a proper chip on the shoulder.

It's a stigma that would take us 50+ years to overcome. Look at the other schools listed. LSU lost to Troy last year. Florida and UCLA are consistently mediocre and underachieving.

Michigan State makes cut for 5-star OL Devontae Dobbs

Michigan State just made the cut for one of the top prospects in the nation.

Devontae Dobbs, a 2019 five-star offensive lineman from Belleville High School, included Michigan State in a top eight he announced via Twitter Friday night, along with USC, Georgia, Oklahoma, Clemson, Florida State, Auburn and Ohio State.
